X270 HDD - Can I replace it with an SSD ?

2020-01-17, 9:40 AM

Hello guys,

I'm thinking of buying a X270. A cheap option would be to buy one with HDD. But HDD is not that a good option.
So would it be technically possible to replace the HDD by a new SSD?

Especially this one, because I already have it: 256GB M.2 2280 SATA ( https://www.cpumedics.com/samsung-mznty256hdhp-000h1-256gb-m-2-2280-sata-iii-ngff-solid-state-ssd/)

Thank you really much

Hi !

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.

According to the product specification of ThinkPad X270, system has one HDD slot or one M.2 2280 slot exclusively for storage and some variation of the machine comes with HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high and you may change it to SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high.

Regards,

Thank you for your answer.

I did not really understood everything, but it let me think that I can replace the HDD on whatever X270 model with a SSD.

That's the most important, cause I really need the SSD, and I don't want to be stuck with a HDD laptop.

Thank you really much,

My take after looking at the HMM is that if you want to replace a 2.5" HDD with an m.2 SSD you will need a different bracket and cable.

Another option might be putting an SSD in the WWAN slot if the slot is unused.  You can use that for your primary drive and keep the HDD as additional storage.  Per the base spec it should be SATA.  I'm uncertain of the size (probably 2242) but your 2280 SSD will not fit.
