Hi Eric! Welcome to our forums community. Base on the PSREF: https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_X280, hardware manual: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/tp_x280_hmm_en.pdf and the structure(2 photos below), the WWAn soesn't seem to fit for M.2 2242 NVMe installation.

Can confirm I got my x280 to work with a 2nd NVMe on the WWAN slot. I'm using a Toshiba RC100 2242 form-factor.

Although the drive has two keys (two cuts, similar to a M2 SATA chip) while the WWAN slot only has one (typical PCIe), it still fits and works fine. However when using it as a boot device, it does not show up in the boot menu by default unless there is OS with a bootloader present on the disc.

I just got a used X280 with an m.2.  I have the X270 with a NVMe in the WWAN slot.  I tried it in the WWAN slot of the X280.  It fits, but the system doesn't recognize it.  And I don't see it anywhere in the BIOS.  Any suggestions?

I have X280 and purchased the Toshiba RC100 240GB.  After installing in WWAN slot, I didn't see it.  Then I realized that I needed to enable WWAN Wireless port in BIOS.  Once enabled, this drive showed up.

What a great little addition it is. Read speeds of 813 MB/s and write speeds of 635 MB/s.
