Re: X300 Vista: Rebuild it with XP?

2008-07-28, 16:40 PM

Has anyone done this for Windows XP x64 Edition on the x300 ?

I'd like to have this OS installed with the needed drivers so it sees the SSD.

Anyone even know what drivers are required for XP x64 ?

The following operating systems are supported:
Windows Vista 32-bit
Windows XP Home Edition or Professional
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005
So why is there no support for Windows XP x64 Edition ?

Windows Vista 64-bit is supported also.

The X300 was released Feb 08. The original no new shipment date for OEM XP was Jan 08. Of course Microsoft subsequently pushed the OEM XP shutoff date to Jun 08. But Lenovo had obviously already decided that the XP 64-bit market was not big enough to justify support.

OK then; which AHCI is the one used in my 6478 1HU x300 ?

See here under "Preparations":

http://www.msfn.org/board/Integration-of-Intel-Sata-and-Raid-drive-t107504.html

I can't install XP x64 without knowing the exact driver specs.

It's weird how unclear the Lenovo website is about that.

Simple hardware specs that are usable for 3rd party installations are pretty hard to find, if at all mentioned..

That's pretty silly of them, it's the best system for this notebook, obviously.
Check here how it wins the all-OS important performance tests

Benedict, perhaps whoever performed these X300 benchmarks can help you find the right drivers, since they have all the XP 64-bit results? The link doesn't give any details about how the numbers were arrived at.

If you have the downgrade rights, you can downgrade to XP, no matter if 32 o 64 bit version.

I not own the X300, but the "I'm feel lucky" search thinks it has an ICH-8.

Btw, it is just a plain intel laptop, their drivers are meant to work witn any recent  ICH (not shure about Sandy bridge's chipsets)
