Here's my tale of woe: some of it may be Vista related but the X300 is certainly implicated.
All was well until I started getting BSODs on resume from hibernation and sleep. These fingered swumx01.sys as the culprit and this is the driver for the Sierra Wireless modem. This is a much valued feature so I tried to find a solution. No one else seemed to have experienced this problem.
(Incidentally, I used a vodafone sim from an existing 3G card; this seemed to work fine and seems unlikely to be the cause of the problem. Vodafone unable to offer any help anyway.)
I even tried a modded version of swumx01.sys (having set a system restore point). This BSODed on me too so I tried to roll back to the original driver with System Restore while in Safe Mode. On booting I then found all but one of my user accounts had vanished and the remaining one would not accept any of my passwords. I didn't have a password reset disk (would it have helped?) so, with a heavy heart, embarked on the tedious job of using the system recovery disks to restore the system.
Eventually I got back to something close to a working system though of course I had to disable the modem again to prevent the BSODs on resume. A few more BSODs later (all types and almost at random) the system seemed to stabilise with the exception of a repeatable BSOD everytime I tried to run a ColdFusion web application locally. This identfied tvtumon.sys as the problem, which is a key part (I think) of Rescue and Recovery. So, gritting my teeth, I uninstalled that as well which did solve that problem.
So at least I have now have a mostly usable system back but significant bits are lacking. I'd like to get back the wireless modem and Rescue and Recovery. Any ideas on how I might set about this task?

Well, I did see your message and it was your modded driver that I used (sorry, should have credited you). You don't mention BSODs though so I assumed your problem was different. And the driver BSODed on me anyway. I'll try the other patch as well though.

So far so good :-) Your fix is working. Thank you very much indeed. (My mistake before was not to apply the power management patch before the modded driver).

Ah, I spoke too soon. The BSODs are back and they feature the modded driver - swumx12.sys. So I'm back to square one again. ![]()

The USB patch seems to have helped. Staying hopeful and thanks for your help.
