X301 Vista Sp1 64-bit WiFi driver 5300 AGN: it is not possible to power on the WiFi radio

2010-08-10, 8:11 AM

I have an X301 S/N xx-xxxxx laptop installed with Vista Business Professional 64-bit SP1. A few days ago I updated the drivers via ThinkVantage "Update my system" tool including the WiFi driver. Now, I have the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN driver version 13.2.0.30. After installing this driver the WiFI Radio is not working: it is not possible to power on the WiFi radio.

During this update the latest Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools program was installed. In the Diagnose menu the Hardware test fails for this device claiming that the wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled. However, if I look at the Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Network Adapters -> Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN -> (Right click) Properties -> Driver tab then I can see that the device is enabled.

I have to add that the original driver worked perfectly and it is now very annoying that I cannot use the WiFi at all. Please, give me help how to solve this problem. I tried to visit the Lenovo Support & Downloads pages and download other X301 Vista 64-bit driver but the system tells me that I have the latest driver and the driver was not installed. Anyway, I am not sure what is the right solution or driver, so please help me. I am quite frustrated as I downloaded everthing officially by using the ThinkVantage tool given by Lenovo. I thought that these drivers offered by this tool were thoroughly tested.

 Hi jamez,

finally, I gave it up and I upgraded the OS to Windows 7. Now, wifi is working given by the Windows 7 driver.

Hi agali,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Could you try to do a "Roll Back" on the WLAN driver and see if it helps.

 Hi Jamez,

unfortunately, I cannot rollback the driver for some reason. The Roll Back Driver tab is inactive. I am not sure what happened with the original driver.

Hi Adam,

As checked on the support page, the latest drivers should be 13.02.1000.

Can you try to download via the following link and see if it helps.

 Hi JameZ,

Are you sure? Please, look at the description (6mwv18ww.txt):

Version 13.02.1000 (Package)
(Driver)
- 13.2.0.30
for Intel Centrino *-N 1000/6200/6300
Intel WiFi Link 1000/5100/5150/5300/5350
- Briefly-discontinued support
for Intel PRO/Wireless 3945BG/3945ABG Network Connection
- 13.2.0.30
for Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG/4965AGN

So, the driver version is 13.2.0.30 what I installed on my machine. In the meantime I found that I have *SP2* 64-bit Vista. Can it be the problem that I do not have SP1 but SP2 Vista?

Yours,
Adam

Hi agali,

Just a thought, could you check if the Wireless Switch is turned on?

283iA369133ECBCBF5DC

If that is turned on, could you check in "Network Connections" and see if the Wireless device is enabled or disabled.

Hi JameZ,

Wireless switch is turned on (green thing can be seen) and the wireless devise is enabled (device manager->network adapters).

Hi agali,

Could you press on the ThinkVantage button beside the power button and see if there is a "Power On Wireless Radio"?

Hi JameZ,

In ThinkVantage Productivity Center there is a tab: Wireless

Wireless --> Power On/Off Wireless Radio --> 802.11 Wireless Radio Power On

However, if I push the power On button nothing happens. For Bluetooth Radio this function is working.

In addition, there is an icon on the taskbar where I can get a Wireless Connection Status Window after left click on it. If I click on the Power on Wireless Radio tab nothing happens (same symptom as before). As I said the Intel PRO Set fails for the hardware test but everthing seems OK in the settings of Device Manager.

I have to add that I have also serious problems with updating Windows Vista 64 because I cannot connect to the Windows server (possibly due to false permissions of some files). I tried everything by following the advices of Microsoft but it did not help. It is another problem but it might be related to the recent problem. The Ethernet connection seems to work perfectly.

Yours,

agali,

The next step would be to do an uninstallation of the Intel Wireles Pro then do a reboot then download it via the site and install it again.
