X301 to get a new processor next week??

2009-03-27, 20:05 PM

So will Lenovo bump up the ULV processor in the X301 from SU9400 1.4ghz  to a faster SL9600 2.13ghz ??  that would give some of us an option for more performance in this awesome thin and light thinkpad.   :)

I also hope the LED screen quality will be better in this new update...

That's true?

If it is, i will wait for couple of weeks to buy new x301 laptop.

Anybody or Lenovo give us more good info about this.

I do know that the current x301 has a SU9400 1.4ghz processor

As being reported on many tech sites like Cnet, that this Monday, Intel will be releasing a few new bumps in chips

Intel ULV and LV chips due on March 30, 2009:

  • SP9600 / 2.53GHz / 6MB cache / 1066MHz FSB / 2 cores / 25W / $316
  • SL9600 / 2.13GHz / 6MB cache / 1066MHz FSB / 2 cores / 17W / $316
  • SU9600 / 1.60GHz / 3MB cache / 800MHz FSB / 2 cores / 10W / $289
  • SU3500 / 1.4GHz / 3MB cache / 800MHz FSB / 1 core / 5.5W / $262
  • ICP900 / 2.2GHz / 1MB cache / 800MHz FSB / 1 core / 35W / $70

If lenovo stays with the SU9600 1.6ghz new chip and also offer an option like the x200s to get the step up SL9600 2.13ghz then we'd be in business for extra performance.  so it will be a trade off battery time for performance depending on what configuration of x301 you choose....I think this is doable....some people I know would like the x301 design/style (.73" + 3 lbs) but find it a little underpowered...

so 2 options of processors like the x200/x200s  depending on more performance vs longer battery time.   I'd like to see these options offered.

:D

And also find a better LED supplier.....too many reports of sub-par quality on the screen around the net from current owners...yes there was a big improvement from the x300 screen but I still think there's more room for improvement.

Its just one person's speculation. :smileysurprised:

Annoucement of new technology from Intel and its incorporation in actual shipping devices rarely occurs simultaneously.  There are always leads times to new technology appearing in field, and the length of the lead time depends on a multiplicity of factors.

Cheers,

Anyway, it's also new info, new update for ultra version, but we hope there will be more CPU options for x301.
