Thanks for the information.

I forgot to precise that I run Win XP, but your information could be useful for Vista users.

I guess that there is still not any update from Lenovo support.

Re: X60 - Screen flickers and screen shutoff - problem with power management or hardware failure?

I am now more convinced than ever that this screen shutoff problem is related to the Intel video driver. My problem started when I upgraded to version 6.14.10.4926 from the previous version (6.14.10.4860) last summer. I rolled back to version 4860 in early December and the problem went away. Then yesterday I installed the new version (6.14.10.5002) that was released yesterday, and the problem re-surfaced!

So I am going back to 4860...

Hello Brovig,

Can you tell me your Power Management version? I have already tried to roll back to version 4860, but I still got the problem...

And do you know how to roll back the Power Management version?

Thanks for your support.

I try and keep all other drivers current. The Power Manager is version 1.47 at present.

I'm afraid I don't know how to roll that one back. I was able to find the earlier video driver through a link that someone posted in this forum. Lenovo don't make it easy/obvious to find older drivers.

And you are sure you you do in fact have the older 4860 video driver?

My system is a X60 running XP.

Oh my god! I just tried to install the latest drivers (new one) and.... it is worse!!! When Windows finishes to boot, then the screen shuts down... Well, I have to admit that Intel or Lenovo teams did a good job!! :smileymad:

I did try at least 5 older versions and the last one was the 4860, downloaded from the link in this thread. Maybe, you got another one...

In addition of the problem of screen that flickering, when I installed the 4860, my display was not well calibrated.

I am quite lost now.

I used to get good experience with IBM products, but this time, it's awful!!

Thanks Brovig for your help and support.

Is there anyone with a valid support contract? We should open it officially as a bug. When I tried it, the customer representative didn't even want to listen, because we have inhouse support, who is not so much interested in this I fear...

If they still refuse to acknowledge the problem (as they did when I started the thread), they can now be pointed here. The bug is almost completely described and linked to the video driver I guess....

Hello dsp,

What do you mean with "a valid support contract"?

Can we contact all the administrators of this Forum? and just show them that there is a real problem with the graphics drivers.

Re: X60 - Screen flickers and screen shutoff - problem with power management or hardware failure?

Hi again,

I recently told everyone about my experience with Lenovo....I have complete warrenty and coverage for my X60s

I sent it in twice, both times the tech only tried hardware fixes, any software fix would be a re-image of the harddrive. do not look for them to fix it....a re-image removes the problem...on their side that is sufficient. I did not send it in the third time, I re-imaged myself and let video and power management alone. I have had no problems since. Sorry, but I guess our machines are to old for them to care???? Anyway, thank goodness it can be fixed if you take the time....

Re-image the hard drive is the solution for a lot of softwares' issues, at least... :smileywink:

But Lenovo support should not release drivers that do not work. We paid Lenovo's products quite expensive because we believe that Lenovo's laptops are high quality as well as the technical support.

On this problem, the tech support is not very efficient...

My laptop is still under warranty until the end of 2010 and I am afraid now if something happens that the tech support just advise me to re-image...

Below a copy of the message I received from Mark. I asked him about the laptop that has been sent to tech support with the flickering problem:

Phildak,

Honestly, Inconclusive.  I believe this is clearly a driver / PM interaction and NOT hardware because earlier drivers seem to improve the results.

There are new drivers coming and we have them on FTP site, but not released to the web yet.

Mark"
