Re: X60 - Screen flickers and screen shutoff - problem with power management or hardware failure?

Judging from your driver version, I assume you are using Vista? I wonder if the same is true for the XP drivers - that you can use the latest video driver with an older PM driver?

Phildak, hopefully Mark will escalate this. The fact that he mentions that he clearly believes that it's a driver interaction problem should be enough to push this to Lenovo to investigate further. Regarding the new drivers coming ou, well from Brovig's post above it seems the brand new driver didn't fix anything so it's back to the drawing board Lenovo.

I'm not sure why rolling back to 4860 doesn't work for you. Do you have PM driver 1.47 installed? I know it may sound silly but are you sure you have 4860 installed? Go to device manager, display adapters then properties and see what the driver version is. Maybe even uninstall the driver completely and allow it to boot using windows generic driver. Then reinstall 4860.

Surely someone at Lenovo's tech department must have been alerted to this thread by now. It's got to be the biggest thread on this board and is continually at the topf the board.

This is the readme.txt from the drivers' package and I just checked for the PM version and it's the 1.47 that has been installed.

Thanks all for your support, which seems to be better than Lenovo's one...

Well that seems like you have the correct driver. If you haven't already tried, I would try uninstalling the driver completely. Then reboot allowing XP to use it's generic screen driver. Then install the 4860 driver again and reboot. When I was playing around with the drivers rolling back didn't work for me so I had to do what I described above.

If the above doesn't work then I'm not sure what else you can try apart from a process of elimination to find what it is

Thanks TPX60sMan for your support.

I think I will re-image the HDD, because I have already uninstall all the older drivers and use the generic one and then installed the 4860 versio, but still the same problem.

But I would like to point out this problem to Lenovo's tech team and would like to find a solution and then help other users in the same situation.

It's too easy for Lenovo's tech team to tell users to re-image the HDD...

I will try to keep this thread on the top.

Did anyone try to install the new version of graphic drivers?

It could be interesting to get some feedbacks?

Some news from your part? Who has already tried the latest graphics drivers?

It seems nobody wants to try it for fear of messing up their system :smileytongue:

I haven't bothered looking at the update but does the release note say anything about fixing this issue? If not then I wouldn't bother about upgrading it.

The release note did not mention about the problem fixing...

So, I would also advise to not install the latest drivers... I tried and it was not fixing the flickering problem.

Just thought I'd wake this thread up.  I didn't know about this problem until it was too late, the other da I decided to run an overdue system update and ended up causing the screen blanking problem.  I use my X60 in class with OneNote and it's VERY frustrating to be mid-lecture and have to fight with the computer to get the screen to come back up.  The only way I have found is to hit FN+F4 to put the computer the sleep then wake it up right away.

Any update?  Any word from Lenovo?  How to fix?

I had to install a previous driver for the graphic card, that took care of it in my case. You can find the links in the previous posts.
