Re: X60 - Screen flickers and screen shutoff - problem with power management or hardware failure?

I am thinking this is not related to drivers only but also hardware.

it could be, but I have a feeling it isnt the more I read the more it seems lenovo has an issue they will not adress, which makes them very unresponsive to the x-60 community, which in my career is a once burned I learn my lesson, and never buy from this company again type of thing.

You have to rememeber that it was a choice that got me here, a choice to spend over $2200 to buy this, and so far it has been a bod choice.  No one from lenovo is doing anything that I can see. I clearly am among one of many people who have been lucky enough to have made the same choice when purchasing.  Fortunately I am a high level manager in a company that has direct influence over IT purchases,  guess which ones I will not be making in the future.

I am using Intel video driver version 7.14.10.1329 with no problems.

Here is a direct link from Lenovo's site for the old drivers: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7ad528ww.exe

It was in another forum thread a while ago, a search did the trick.  Give it a go.

Note: Oh I these drivers are for Vista-32 bit.  If your not using that then sorry, but I think this problem is only apparent on Vista if I'm not mistaken.

I so totally agree - I installed some older drivers and it seemed to work for a while... but now my x60 turned berserk on me. The display is smudging, i.e. programs and websites won't display correctly anymore. My x60 turned into an expensive brick. I need my notebook to function - I guess I'll need to get a new one. Not a lenovo.

Hello everyone.  I have read through this entire thread and I think that it would be helpful to know the following information:

Video Chipset:

Video Driver Version:

Power Management Driver Version:

Thinkpad Power Manager Version:

Operating System

 For Example:

Video Chipset:  Mobile Intel 945 Express
Video Driver Version:  6.14.10.4926
Power Management Driver Version:  1.50
Thinkpad Power Manager Version:  1.43

Operating System:  Windows XP Pro SP3 and SP2

I have an X60 Tablet running the verisons of software/drivers listed above and I do not have this problem.  I also think that it would be helpful to have a clear, concise description of the problem and how you can reproduce the issue.

It sounds like the backlight went out on your LCD.  Has your warranty expired?

if you have read these threads you would know that isnt the problem, and my warentee has expired, my compuetr is 15 months old.

The laptop screen goes out when it wants, stays on when it wants, it could be a million things,  but it started with the driver and when automatic updates reinstalls it, it happens again

the only thing that works for temp is the oldest driver

and  crappy fix at best

Lenovo should take this serriously or refund us or something

Thomasfrotten,

We have a volunteer from this group sending his system in for us to take a look at - he has both versions of the driver, and says he can reliably reproduce the symptoms on his systems - Hopefully this will enable us understand the issue better and resolve.

We should receive the system before end of this week.

Additionally, I might add based on your other comments that it isn't a case of Lenovo abandoning the X60 community - please see Bloo's earlier posts and effort on this matter, it is just that we haven't been able to re-produce on the systems we had at hand.  There could be another variable beyond just the driver level in the equation, which is why I believe we will make more progress having a system in hand that is known to reliably produce the symptoms.

Mark

If I had a second compjuter I could use I would gladly send you this piece of junk, it cannot not do the screen black out thing.

I cant get this thing to run consistently fo more than a few hours at a time,

the driver keeps on installing with windows update

and every time it installs, it wont stay lit for long enough to get to device manager to delete the driver again.

I just keep deleteing the driver and not restarting, then I have my pc attached to a monitor, so when the laptop screen goes black I can still see on the monitor,  so now instead of having a light weight computer, I have to lug around a monitor and a laptop

I have ordered a hewlett packard laptop and when that comes in I will gladly tell you and the world my nightmare is over

I only wish i stll had the $2200 I gave to Lenovo back

oh well.   For the record this is the worst I have ever been burned in any deal.

I have bought used junk box cars and had better life out of them.
