X61 High battery discharge rate after full charge

2009-04-19, 20:28 PM

Hello all,

I did a bit of research before posting this because I'm a little concerned about the rate at which my Sanyo 8c Li-Ion battery discharges. I am only getting around 3 1/2 hours out of it when set on maximum battery life and with the screen brightness set to no more than half brightness.

This figure is what I can get out of my T61 with a  6c battery! The design capacity of the X61 8c battery is 74.88Wh and with only 16 charge cycles it's showing its full capacity as 69.77Wh which is concerning. I have heard people obtaining around 7 hours out of their 8c batteries, mine is far short of that.

Do you guys have any suggestions please? have I got a duff battery?

Ben.

If you got warranty have a chat to the Lenovo service and see whether you can get a new battery.

Hi,

yeah, it is correct. Just call in Lenovo service and you'll get battery replacement if your batery is under warranty. :smileyhappy:

Hi!

I'm in the same predicament but am pretty sure I'm no longer covered by the 1-year warranty for the battery. Am considering buying a spare one online. Would anyone happen to have an idea if this is the model I should get?

http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auweb/LenovoPortal/en_AU/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=38&Code=40Y7003&current-category-id=4364BD0F20B94413B5AD6E684D2848E9

I know it says ThinkPad X60 Series 8 Cell High Capacity Battery, but can't seem to find one specifically for the X61 series!

And then this page seems to show that this (same?) battery fits both the X60 and X61 models -

I'm a little confused - any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

Chris

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm currently trying to get an exchange with Lenovo. I was told by them that as far as they're aware no battery will last more than 3 1/2 hours! They have quoted on their website between 3.9hr - 10.7hr for the X61.

I'll update this thread with the eventual outcome.

Chris as for the battery compatibility, I don't know about that specific battery, however as far as I know most accessories that fit the X60 are also compatible with the X61, it's just Lenovo don't list it on the site. For example in some of their documentation the X6 Ultrabase is listed as only being compatible with the X60, where as in fact it works with both machines.

Well after speaking with Lenovo again they assure me that 3 1/2 hours is around average for the 8c battery. Apparently the long times quoted on the website is if the laptop is powered on but isn't being used.

Pretty misleading.

The amount of battery usage time depends on your CPU. For the T7xxx C2D the average battery time for a 8 cells is between 3 hours to nearly 6 hours depending on whether you are using high performance or maximum battery mode.

In that case it will be about right, It's a 2GHz T series Core 2 processor which I think is the fastest available in the X61. Maybe that is what is causing the extra drain.

Thanks.

The Core 2 Duo T7xxx use a lot of power due to the high TPD, this is especially problematic in a small casing, where your fan would be running constantly to remove the heat. Your heat vent must be pretty hot.
