X61 - missing Wireless Adaptor?

Hi,

Bought a Thinkpad X61 from ebay (still under warranty, just). First impressions are good, it's a great machine and this is a nice example of it.

I fitted a new hard drive, installed XP Professional, and have updated all drivers from the Support website.

It's a 7673-H7G model.

The problem I'm having is that Device manager doesn't display any Wireless Network adaptor.

  •   In the BIOS, I have the Network > Wireless Radio > Enabled
  •   I have the Wireless switch on the Front of the machine set to active
  •   I've tried PC-Doctor for DOS (pre-Windows diagnostic), and for the Wireless tests it just says "N/A"

I'd appreciate any suggestions, I've run out of ideas.

This model DOES have an inbuilt Wireless adaptor, doesn't it?  Smiley Sad

Thanks for any help

Jim

Re: X61 - missing Wireless Adaptor?

it could mean that the wireless card is not installed.

Check the hardware manual on how to access the wireless card slot, so that you can whether the wireless card is present or not.

Re: X61 - missing Wireless Adaptor?

Thanks for the suggestion.

I managed to get into the case to take a look (a bit tricky), and it looks like one is installed in there, and it's a model which is compatible with my 7673-H7G.

So it's either:

a) faulty switch on front of case

b) faully card / connections to main board

c) some obvious error I'm making

.. but they're all beyond me to fix. Looks like I'm stuck with buying a PCMCIA Wireless card.

Any further suggestions appreciated.

Regards,

JB
