X61s battery error and replacement

My X61s battery duely failed, was in the warranty period, I called and was sent a new one. When I put it in, the yellow blinking light immediately came on, it only charged to 50% (and it stays there), the laptop only works when plugged in and shuts down immediately after I unplug it (though since the first time I am shutting windows down properly). Has anyone else been sent a replacement battery that also didn't work?
