Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

Hello,

There is an bug in BIOS version 1.24 for Yoga X1 (20FQ0041XS).

I'm using WMI filtering while working with GPO. You mess up the chassis type ! (Working well on BIOS 1.21 )

Get-WmiObject Win32_SystemEnclosure | Select ChassisTypes

chassistype

-----------

(empty value).. previously it was {10} = laptop type

Please, Lenovo! Fix it

PS: Never seen so many problems with laptops like we have with 10pcs of X1 Yoga series!

3.000$ a pcs, job well done!

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

Where are you running this query?  If you use Win10 (or Win10 PE) version 1607 or later, I think you will find it works well.  Here is some more info:  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/sf17-t0046

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

This is a powershell command.

Result of this command was a value {10} = notebook, before the update from BIOS 1.21

After we updated BIOS to newest 1.24 version, result of this command is a blank field.

That makes GPO/WMI filtering unable to work!

Obviously, running windows 10, Pro, 1703

Thank you for the link you provided, but I don't see a way how can that help me. Is there a way how to edit these SMBIOS2/SMBIOS3 fields to identify the enclosure properly?

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

Please run following command from admin command prompt:

wmic /NameSpace:\\root\cimv2 Path Win32_SystemEnclosure get chassistypes

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

Not sure what is going on with your system.  Your powershell script is working well here.  It returns {31} as the ChassisType, which is the correct value.

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

Well, once again!

Having here 10 pcs of X1 Yoga..

3 of them I updated with BIOS 1.24

those 3 are returning no value when I'm running your/mine command .. simply empty/blank field .. no { }

rest 7 pcs are still running old BIOS 1.21

when I'm running the command output is {10}  (that value represent "notebook" chassis class)

Are you following me now?

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

Sorry, I have no idea what you are saying.  That command is working fine here with BIOS 1.24, see below.  Many other customers have confirmed it also.

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

Well, where you have {31} I have:

ChassisTypes

-------------

That's it.. no value

On 1.21 it was value {10}

Also, do you think that {31} is more appropriate than {9} or {10} ?

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

31 is the appropriate value for Yoga-type system as defined by the SMBIOS 3.0 spec.

To rule out a problem with your image, please clean-install Win10 1703 from Microsoft ISO and then run the command again.

Re: Yoga X1 20FQ bios bug

Man, I wrote above that 7 pcs of X1 Yoga are running BIOS 1.21 .. when I run the command output value is {10}

You've changed something in 1.24 and 3 pcs I flashed to 1.24 are returning no value. There is no point in clean-install Win10 1703 !

1.21 = {10}

1.24 = {31} in your case .. right?

So, one day you have a notebook chassisType and the other day you're convertible

And we're back...

Move delayed but still coming
