Yoga X1 and Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock won't start new monitor

Hello,

We have been fighting a new Lenovo Yoga X1 + new Thunderbolt 3 Dock+ new LVO T22I-10 21.5IN 1920X1080 LED MON for 2 months.  We've updated all drivers and bios on the Yoga - up to date as recently as yesterday.

Still every day, the client sits her Yoga on the desk, plugs in the lightning cable, waits and 90% of the time, the external monitor does not come on.  We've tried VGA cable and Displayport cables.  Neither work.

What is the deal with this?  Is it just defective?  This completely new computer set up shouldn't be such a hassle.  Please advise.

Re: Yoga X1 and Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock won't start new monitor

I see a Update on this document: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht505867

Maybe this is your issue?

No display on dock monitor (DisplayPort or VGA port)

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the dock from the system.
  2. Open OS Control Panel and go to Multiple Displays section to set the display settings to
    expected mode: Extended Mode/Clone Mode.
    1. From the desktop, move the pointer to the bottom-left corner of the screen, and then search Control Panel in the search box .
    2. Depend on your Control Panel mode. Do one of the following:
      • Click Display-> Change display settings.
      • Click Appearance and Personalization->Display-> Change display settings.
    3.   In the Multiple displays drop-down list box, select the mode you want.
  3. Refer to dock overview page to set proper display resolutions on dock monitor.
  4. Try to Power off and power on your monitor again.
