To the Moderator: instead of a vague message like "Please follow the ... rules", why don't you specify what rule was not followed?

OK! Campaigning.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Re: Yoga X1 touch screen not working after latest firmware update

Same case, Yoga 1st gen, firmware update > touch screen dead. I do not believe it is prudent to call this "solved". The thing is, I have about 30 of these machines here and they would be subject to regular firmware updates. If every one of them breaks with a firmware update, I will call that a notable problem.

I would respectfully like Lenovo to respond to this matter. There are far too many cases of hardware physically breaking when installing a critical update. This is a problem which deserves a response.

Most of my machines are in warranty, so my problem isn't as bad, but obviously a faulty firmware update has to be pulled.

Re: Yoga X1 touch screen not working after latest firmware update

It is May of 2019 and Lenovo still did not pulled this update as the same thing happened to me yesterday. Touch functionality stopped working right after firmware update. Unbelievable.

My Lenovo Driver Update software installed Critical update for Touch Firmware:
Touch Firmware Update – 7[32,64]/8.1/10[64] -V4.20/5.04/100.3

Cannot downgrade the firmware as the Wacom device responsible for touch control is no longer visible in Device Manager (Getting “Target Not Found”)

Also now my Vantage software thinks its ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th generation.

X1 Yoga 1st Gen (Type 20FQ, 20FR) Laptop (ThinkPad) - Type 20FQ

Machine Type Model: 20FQ000QUS

Bios: N1FET68W 1.42

Of course, my system warranty ended last month. Got a case opened. Support agent declined service due to expired warranty but I managed to get his supervisor on the line and after 10min of persuading he finally opened a case and another one to escalate it. Promised 1-3 day call back. This is clearly Lenovo’s fault. I will not be paying for service if Lenovo caused the issue with my $2000+ laptop. Will keep you posted on progress.

What worries me most is that we're a MSP and have 100+ of these laptops deployed to our customerbase... It will be fun if these start upgrading on their own.

I am having the exact same issue.  Gen 1 Yoga, well over $2k when I bought it, now out of warranty, and touch features and pen destroyed by latest firmware update.  The "solution" cannot be to pay for a new computer.  It is brutally unfair for Lenovo to ignore this issue.  This is not "planned obsolecence", rather it is selective harm to an entire customer group.  I will be interested in their response.

Re: Yoga X1 touch screen not working after latest firmware update

I had one of our techs call Lenovo support today about two of the broken ones. Lenovo support insisted, promised and vowed to us that there is absolutely no "pandemic" about this, that it's just a single case and they have not heard this happen anywhere else.

Good news though, one of the systems we did this upgrade on only lost touch for a while. Two warm reboots and a cold one got it back working. So it's not every system that breaks, but I'd say about half based on what I've seen so far.

I find this lack of honesty quite unfruitful. We're having a Lenovo local representative come over next week to talk about the future of our business, I'm going to have to raise this matter. I'm not blaming them for making a mistake, hardware and software issues happen to everyone. It's how you deal with them that makes the difference. Right now they're shoving it under the rug and that's unacceptable.

@bananaman "Exactly what in my post was against the rules?!!"

Lenovo needs to pay attention to the actual issue being reported, take responsibility and fix it rather than editing posts that don't need to be...

Just saying, it's been 1/2 year and heads in the sand still.  These laptops are high end IE: the most expensive on the market.  End users deserve proper/prompt treatment.

Quick update to my earlier post. Despite my X1 no longer being covered by warrantly, Lenovo did took it in for repair. Had it back after 2 business days and it looks like the only the screen has been replaced. No OS wipe or any other changes. It still has the -V4.20/5.04/100.3 update installed but touch functionality is working as expected. Vantage software still identifies the laptop incorrectly as X1 Carbon 4th gen.

This is very good news! Mine was also replaced (screen only) but was still in warranty. The drive was however wiped out (had to reinstall everything) but am not complaining... same issue with Vantage.
