Re: Yoga x1 3rd gen keyboard backlight flickering

So you're telling me to update my driver? It is updated. From the day one. Didn't help.

Re: Yoga x1 3rd gen keyboard backlight flickering

I have the new EC firmware that is supposed to fix the (1) keyboard backlight flickering, and (2) annoying high-pitched noise that happens when AC attached.  I'm looking for volunteers to install it and report feedback about these 2 issues.

https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApXWjQB7_a1bhbwofnE5JzEFHI7vpQ

How to install:

1.  download and extract the .zip from above link

2.  plug in AC power

3.  double-click on winuptp.exe

4.  follow on-screen prompts

When the EC firmware is installed successfully, check BIOS setup to make sure Embedded Controller Version is reported as "N25HT19W (1.07)"

Re: Yoga x1 3rd gen keyboard backlight flickering

I can confirm that the EC update fixes the flickering issue on my unit (never noticed the high-pitch noise issue, but that might be because of my age... Smiley Very Happy ).

Thanks!

Re: Yoga x1 3rd gen keyboard backlight flickering

So far it's working for me as well. I've been active for a good hour or so and haven't triggered any flickering by using the keyboard. Of course, we won't know for certain until a week of sleep/wake cycles.

Hi someotherguy

I've tested your new EC firmware today. Seems to fix backlight flickering.

But didn't eliminate the pitch noise of the Yoga. It is still very noticeable especially during startup.

And it doesn't matter if AC is attached or unplugged.

Re: Yoga x1 3rd gen keyboard backlight flickering

Will test new EC FW too. Thanks god, my X1 Yoga is really quiet. No noise, no matter if AC or not. Now to make Yoga "nearly perfect" Lenovo have to fix sleep (S0i3 is crap) and give us back S3 sleep and fix finally the lack of HDR. (Full 10bit and true HDR/DolbyVison, not a fake one)

@hello @someotherugy, thanks so much for following up on this issuea and posting the fix! As others have reported, the keyboard backlight issues seem to have been resolved. The coil whine, however, still happns on my machine when plugged in or connected to a thunderbolt device.

@someotherguy

Should we wait for an official BIOS update to (probably) 1.13 or was that it?
