battery losing 7% charge a day

2018-05-10, 20:59 PM

I am losing about 7% charge a day on my x1 yoga.  Based on the advice of richk in another post on the TP25 forum I have already disabled Fast Startup.  On my TP25 that fixed the battery losing charge even when shutdown issue.  But on the X1 Yoga 3rd gen that is not fixing the problem.  I have looked at event viewer and dont see any issues.  Any other ideas?

TIA

I have disabled thunderbolt too as of now.  I'm still losing battery charge even though computer is off.  Its losing 1-2% a day versus up to 7% a day before.  Any ideas?

Have you tried disabling always-ON USB?  Don't know if it's in Settings or BIOS on that machine.  It made at least a small difference on a couple of my TPs.

This seems to really be an issue with the whole Lenovo lineup. Experiencing a similar problem with my x380 Yoga - everything is disabled (Fast Start, USB power, Wake-On-LAN [have you tried the last one?]), still at least 10% drain when off per 24h. For some Laptops, there seems to have been a BIOS-Update to fix the issue, but afaik not for the X-Series. Can someone from Lenovo please verify what is going on here?

I have disabled Wake on Lan.  My settings match what i have on the TP25.  I am still losing 2-7% a day compared to maybe 1% a week on TP25.  Whats different is on the TP25 there are 2 batteries.  So when im losing 1% a week its really 0% on 1 battery and 2% on the other battery.  That shows me there is something causing a drain.  Otherwise why is one of the batteries 0% loss even after 3 weeks.

As another test I shut down my laptop this weekend BUT left it plugged in.  Battery dropped to 98% while plugged in overnight.  None of my other thinkpads have ever lost battery while plugged in this fast.

Re: battery losing 7% charge a day

2018-06-01, 15:35 PM

I called Lenovo support.  They cant seem to get the same answer.  On May 28th I submitted a support request online explaining the drain issue.  Support calls back on the 29th.  I'm at work so i dont have the laptop in front of me.  I explain whats going on.  Support AGREES that its not normal to lose 1-4% a day while unplugged and shut down.  He asks me to call back when im in front of the computer but recommends I run a battery reset.  I said ok.  On May 31st support calls up and asks me to call back and said if i dont call back within 24 hours case will be closed.  I call back on May 31st and explain I have not had a chance to run battery reset yet.  I also went back through the issue.  He also AGREES its NOT normal to lose 1-4% charge overnight while laptop is shut down with Fast start up turned off.  While plugged in or not plugged in.  I run the battery reset program yesterday on May 31st.  During the reset the laptop on step 2(discharge) completely shuts off.  It took a while but it turned back on.  It continued to charge to 100%.  Vantage still thinks its in step 2 of discharge but its not discharging.  I made a post about this in the software forum.  I call support today.  case number # 4069ZD8  The woman i talked to on the phone listened while i told her about the discharge not being normal.  She put me on hold and gave back and said her boss told her its NORMAL to lose 1-4% battery charge overnight.  Out of 3 calls this is the only one that claimed it was NORMAL.  Since the adapter is getting really hot she is sending me an adapter.  She also offered to replace the battery.  Its a new laptop and I didnt want the battery replaced yet since I dont want the case opened up and have scratches or gouge marks on something brand new so she said lets try the adapter first.

Sorry for long story.  So to other thinkpad owners is it NORMAL to lose 1-4% overnight from battery while laptop is off and fast startup is turned off?  None of my prior/current 6 thinkpads have ever lost power of 1-4% overnight while shut down.  Maybe 1% a week but not a day.

I have uploaded default settings in BIOS.  I am still losing 2-3% a day WITH computer turned off.  Support says this is normal.  Does anyone else have a X1Y3 that can tell me if the machine is turned off are they losing 2-3% overnight?  Its been this way since day one.  Its too late to return now.
