how come my RAM usage is very high??? and some weird stuff

2008-02-28, 18:20 PM
got my X61 yesterday, and after i updated windows update. the RAM usage stays around 55% (2GB RAM in total). and the fan is working all the time?
any thoughts?
thx

well. i just restored my laptop.so now nothing has been installed or upgraded. and the OS is vista basic.
ram usage is around 50% all the time, again, i have 2 GB in total.
and the fan is working NON-stop. it is noisy and annoying. if i use the battery, and leave the laptop in idel, the fan will stop sometimes, but if i use AC, the fan is definitely non-stop.
so just wondering are these 2 issues normal for X61? noticed that some people has the same fan problem in this fourm. what about the the ram usage? if it is 50% all the time, the laptop uses up 1GB RAM all the time. vista is not this horrible, right? i have another HP laptop. it has 1 GB RAM and uses vista premium. the ram usage is about 50%, so thats only 512MB.

one more issue is that how can i restore my laptop to the factory setting by using the "rescue and recovery"?  if i click "rescue and recovery" and then "restore your system from a backup", it askes me to choose the backup to restore from. so if i do not have any backup, i can not restore my laptop?

Which Windows OS?  Look into your process task list, in order to identify if some specific processes are always running. Maybe there is some Windows indexing or virus scanner process running in the background etc.

Well, if you take 1 GB of RAM out of your X61, you can have your X61 like that too!

You might want to do some reading about how Vista uses memory..... there plenty of information on the web about that.

Cheers,
