Re: modern standby fix for thinkpad X1 yoga gen3 ?

It's been 52 days since the X1 Carbon 6th Gen got the S3 sleep option in BIOS, yet the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen still doesn't have it with BIOS 1.25.

The lack of S3 sleep for the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen should not be ignored, and the discussion should not be scattered and forgotten.

Please consider merging this thread with a master thread regarding S3 sleep fix: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Yoga-3rd-Gen-S3-Sleep-Linux/m-p/4235264

Re: modern standby fix for thinkpad X1 yoga gen3 ?

X1C6 got S3 sleep from bios version 1.30.
However, X1Y3 can't get 'S3 sleep' even newer bios version 1.25.
Why?

S3 Sleep is not only Linux problem.
Modern Standby is totally garbage, of course it's same in Windows.
That is not for business class laptop.

It makes laptop hot and more power consumption.

It limits the use of the laptop while the screen is off.
It even has an extremely limited set of power options in Windows.

I did not buy a just tablet, I bought X1Y3 that is a classical laptop with digitizer features.
At least, it must be selectable option.

Re: modern standby fix for thinkpad X1 yoga gen3 ?

I disagree, Modern Standby is expected on modern pcs.

With Windows hello, I am immediate productive when I open my lid.

My X1 Carbon works great with Modern Standby and my windows updates are done at night when I am not using my laptop.

This issue you are seeing isn't architectual, it is a Bug that Lenovo needs to resolve so you system function like it is suppose to.

S3 is dead, all new windows features will require Modern Standby

You are ignoring all us Linux users. There is little to no benifit at all using Windows Modern Standby when running Linux, and the support for Windows Modern Support was only added in recent version of Linux mainline kernel. ThinkPad X1 Yoga, like all other ThinkPad products, received certificate from Ubuntu and RedHat for Linux compatibility. Neither certificate report mentions the sleep issue, so it is perfectly logical that we expect this laptop to work as intended in Linux.

Just to clarify, we are not asking Lenovo to completely drop Modern Standby support. We want Lenovo to add an option in BIOS to switch between Modern Standby (Si03) and traditional S3 sleep state, just like what they did to X1 Carbon.

Re: modern standby fix for thinkpad X1 yoga gen3 ?

Agreed - no need to do away with Modern Standby support - just add S3 support to the BIOS as was done for X1G6 a few months back.

Please release a BIOS update with S3 support for the X1Y3 asap.

You are forcing your will onto other users.

Screen-off instantly puts the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen into Modern Standby, and Modern Standby disconnects VPN and SSH connections. This is utterly unusable to some users.

It's been 73 days since the X1 Carbon 6th Gen got the S3 sleep option in BIOS, yet the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen still doesn't have it with BIOS 1.27.
