pre-shipped disk information?

2008-03-17, 5:15 AM
i've been wondering about the disk that came with my laptop... there is a resuce and recovery cd along with 6 recovery CD for XP SP2. Are the 6 CDs for XP, the ones that will let me downgrade to XP or what? and rescue and recovery, is that the one that will let me reload Vista incase i wanted to upgrade from XP in the future? the reason why i'm asking is that, the downgrade to XP would cost around 50 or so dollars (i was told) and a recover CD for vista is at your discretion (make your own) or you can order one from Lenovo. the idea me having these two software shipped free with my system is something i'm still trying to make sense of. thanks for replying.

It sounds like you have the XP downgrade discs. Before running them be sure to create a set of recovery discs for Vista so you can go back to Vista someday if you want to.
The rescue and recovery cd you have is the boot cd for the recovery process. You boot to it and select "Restore to factory condition", then you put in the other 6 discs and it wipes the hard disc clean and installs the XP restore partition, then you reboot into the restore partition and install XP on the Thinkpad. Vista will be completely gone.
