"Device Connect/Disconnect" Notification Sounds Playing Randomly

2020-01-07, 0:03 AM

I just got a new x1 carbon 7th gen for christmas.

Ever since i first booted it up, the Windows "Device Connect" and "Device Disconnect" notifcation chimes keep going off randomly.

But I don't have any devices hooked up to my pc!!

I also turned off bluetooth just to be safe, but the sounds keep playing at random times.

Has anyone else run into this issue?? Any solutions or advice?

Thanks so much for any help/suggestions.

Hi !

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.

Kindly perform a clean boot where it starts with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your laptop. Please follow the steps here.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Hi,

Do you have a resolution on this? I have the same issue on the same model.

Thanks,

Andrei

I am on my second (replacement) X1 Yoga 5 that continues to be plagued with USB CONNECTED and DISCONNECTED ports constantly. I installed a USB Port logger, and it unplugs and plugs in at least 300 times per 10-20 minutes.

Premier tech support is clueless, and their only solution is to uninstall the ports and reboot the device. This does not work!!! Like I said I am on device #2 that is having the same exact issues. They are coming out on monday to replace the control board. That probably won't do anything either....

Did anyone get this resolved??

I am assuming this has not been resolved. I am having the same issue on my P1. It's extremely annoying.

I received my P53s today, having the same issue since the first boot up, please keep posting update if you managed to resolve it. It is really annoying, given that it is a new laptop that I just received.

Having the same issue. Followed the steps above, but the notification sound keeps playing randomly again. I noticed it starts almost every time after I plug my laptop following a low on battery notification then disappears when I reboot.

Sorry I'm late to the game but I didn't buy my ThinkPad until last week!

I found a valuable post where another user installed a USB logger and found their USB connect/disconnect some 300 times in 30 minutes!

For me, the sound occurs reliably once every 30-35 seconds without any apps open or touching the keyboard / touchpad.

I fixed the issue by visiting power settings > advanced and turning off "USB Selective Suspend" for both battery and when on AC power.

Now that I fixed an issue, I have to ask about one. Do any of you get a weird beeping sound when rolling over multiple keys at once? Try pressing "U" "N" "D", holding each one down as you press the next.

What is this?

X1Y3 here. It was as defective Fingerprint reader. Got that fixed by replacing the unit and the cable. The cable has an issue in these models after a little while (bend to tight) resulting in connecting/disconnecting the FP reader.

If you can not reset Fingerprint Reader in BIOS this is the problem.

Maybe this helps.
