Re: "Soft rim" TrackPoint caps - 3d Printed available for X380?

2018-05-11, 6:39 AM

I'm looking for this same equivalent concept for the ThinkPad X380 Yoga.  It has a more traditional "wide" physical pointing stick to the TrackPoint assembly.  In fact, the actual pointing stick part that the cap has to go on to is slightly WIDER than on my T520 (which was compatible all the way back to at least the 1999-era ThinkPad 600).  So the caps from my T520 just sort of spring up and off since it stretches the rubber part out.

@saoto28 or others, do you think creating a Soft Rim 3D printed version for the X380 Yoga is possible?

Though, I don't know about X380.
I made a soft rim type cap for low profile trackpoint by 3d printing.
Then I am using this on my thinkpad E430C.
See attached. This is section drawing of that.
If it is fit for your thinkpad, I can hand it over.

I don't have the tools necessary to measure this precisely enough, but the X380 cap is ever so slightly smaller than the Yoga S1 and Yoga 260 used to use. Anyone know real details?

Hi, this is Saoto28.

If you want my super low profile caps, you can order them here.

https://www.etsy.com/jp/shop/SaotoTech

If you want low profile softrim caps, I have some stocks of 3d printed ones (only white).

When you order the super low caps (cheapest 400JPY is enough), I'l send low profile caps.

(Please tell me in this case.)

I am using SaotoTech's softrim caps on a 6th gen X1 and they solve the problem of too little sensitivity entirely.  Can't recommend them highly enough.

@Saoto

Could you make some soft-rim low-profile for the T470?

Here are the dimensions for the mount.

Hi,

See attached drawing (ver. L3C).
I'm using the 3d printed cap on my X250.

Reasons for the dimensions:
- if the hole width is 4mm, it is difficult to insert the adapter in the cap of 3d printed material.
- if the hole depth is more than 2.5mm, it is difficult to remove the adapter from the cap.

I have a few stocks.
If you want, please order my super low profile ones by etsy site.
Then I will send the low profile ones.
