thinkpad screen cover flimsy

2008-02-08, 20:21 PM
in my opinion, the thinkpad x61 is the by far the best portable laptop, i love the fact that it is very light and most importantly, the battery time is magnificent. what i feel that lenovo have failed to deliver in this amazing laptop is the outside casing of the screen. it is not the of the same standard as the t61 and often times i'm disappointed by the fact that screen can be easily broken if something like a accidental fall did happen. i just want to hear everyone's feedback on their laptop and hopefully in the future the x series will be hard as a rock.

there are compromises in everything..
in the case of an X60 series thinkpad, users want thin and light and build like a rock..
well, you can have any two..
thin and built like a rock but it won't be light..
and so forth..
in this case lenovo and IBM before them chose thin and light and still managed to build something strong enough to withstand daily life..
but if you want it to stop bullets i suggest swapping it for body armour..
otherwise, take care NOT to drop it or stop bullets with it.. :smileyhappy:

So .... the x61(s) is thin, light ... and delicate?

Does it offer a magnesium roll cage and more specifically is the lid protected in any way? Of particular concern is opening/closing the lid - will the thing flex?

Can't see that being good and could only result in a heck of a lot of broken/cracked displays (assuming there is flex due to lack of support, especially on the "ultralight" x61s lid/screen).
