upgrade SSD on Lenovo Carbon X1 2nd gen

Hi,

I have A second gen X1 carbon with an INtel ssd (180go).

I see many topics for this subject.

But i'm a little afraid to buy the wrong ssd.

Can you confirm that's this model is the correct one?

Thank's a lot!

Re: upgrade SSD on Lenovo Carbon X1 2nd gen

Can watch from youtube video.

https://youtu.be/k8L8pQCciks

The SSD seem like m.2 SATA SSD, same as my ThinkPad T460s was intel 180GB, they both still able to use with M.2 SATA/Pcie as well.

For your case can try with either m.2 SATA SSD or M.2 Pcie Samsung 950 pro.

Below has my own photo snap on SSD upgraded.

You upgraded to an NVMe SSD? You don't get an error on boot up? I want to upgrade to 970 pro but keep reading that NVMe SSD's are not supported.

Re: upgrade SSD on Lenovo Carbon X1 2nd gen

X1C 2nd gen does not support PCIe/NVMe SSDs.

Re: upgrade SSD on Lenovo Carbon X1 2nd gen

I agree that it is not possible.  That generation only supports SATA drives.  (No PCIe/NVMe)  There are no tweaks; it just doesn't work.

@Alyjuma,

please, do not duplicate the same question in multiple (five) threads.

Re: upgrade SSD on Lenovo Carbon X1 2nd gen

Hi All,

Just to let the community know I have bought a Samsung SSD 860 EVO M.2 1TB as I was afraid to get the nVME and bother with return in case it wouldn't have worked.

Regards,

Z

Re: upgrade SSD on Lenovo Carbon X1 2nd gen

Hi Friends

Many thanks to all of you for replies. My apologies for posting to multiple threads. I’m new to posts.

I ordered a 1 tb Evo 860 and will use that as you guys suggest. You guys are amazing resources, even for older hardware. Many thanks!
