x120e BIOS update failed - any remedy?

2014-04-20, 7:29 AM

Updating the BIOS through the Lenovo System Update software in Windows 7, hung at "Programming BIOS region" for a couple of hours, now won't boot at all (blank screen, fan, nothing else). Obviously an X120e is out of warranty (or this one is at least), is there anything to be done for this?

I'd rather not go back to the owner and say "Lenovo's software updates killed your hardware, but they'll be happy to sell you a new laptop" because I'm pretty sure it won't be a Lenovo in that case.

Try to reset BIOS and Embedded Controller:
unplug AC adapter and battery, press and hold during 30-40 seconds the power button, release it, plug battery and AC adapter, try to boot up.

This doesn't seem to have done anything but I'll try it again when I have an external monitor to hook up as well, just in case the problem is related to the internal display.

Thanks!

Alan

Please, check out
- are there any blinks around power button when you press it;
- are there any LED blinks on the laptop lid while you are inserting AC adapter cable;
- are there any fan spins or sounds from it after you press power button

Also, for the future, can you access to the laptop drive on another laptop/PC?
