I have had the same problem. And, if they are looking for volunteers, I'd be more than happy to send mine in if it helps. I have my main machine (T61) to rely on, so it wouldn't put me out to send it in.

I'm experiencing the intermittent flickering lines on my X120E as well. BIOS and all system software are up-to-date. I've found that invoking System Standby (sleep) and then Resume makes the problem go away--until the next time. A reboot works as well, but is more painful.

I have had the same problem.  I had mine for a couple of weeks before it started doing it. So I called tech support and they remotely updated my drivers. This seemed to help for a couple of days then the flickering came back. So I called Lenovo back and they said it is a known issue and it needs a new screen. So they sent me a box and I sent it in to get fixed. Well I shipped it out the day before Thanksgiving and tonight at about 6:12pm I get a call from them and a lady tells me that tech guys can't find anything wrong with it. (Great). So I explained to her when it happens and that it has a problem. She said they will keep testing. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a headache!

Interesting. When I tried something stupid with my X100e by setting the GPU clock speeds to near zero, it caused flickering lines. And a hard crash.

Possibly related?

gregurbo: With respect to your being told that you need a new screen: I'd consider that conclusion highly suspect.  On my system, when the problem occurs, I can switch back and forth between the laptop screen and an external monitor--the flickering lines appear on both.

@ im_sorry_dave,
I agree with you. I just hope they can figure it out. With all these people having the same issue I would hope they will take the time to find the proplem and fix it.

I'm experiencing the same issue.
From day 1, I've had the issue on my TV when plugging my X120e via HDMI and using the "extended desktop" configuration.
Now it's beginning to happen on my laptop display.

Most probably graphics chip issue. Please advise!

Re: x120e Flickering

2011-12-09, 17:38 PM

Well they sent my laptop back after a week of testing it. They told me they were not able to duplicate the problem. So I got to thinking about it and came up with the conclusion that they have a very computer friendly environment, static mats, controlled air etc.. You know what I'm saying. When Ups dropped off the box I opened it and pulled out my x120e turned it on and wouldn't you know it I have flickering lines. So I called them back and they are sending me another box to send it back. Since I have 30 days on the box I thought I would try to do more testing of my own to see what is making these flickering lines. I asked the nice customer service lady on the phone how they use the computer when they test the unit. Like do they put it on there lap or desk.? She said they use desks,OK. So, the way I have been using it has consisted of walking around the house in my socks and sweatpants and sweatshirt, sitting in a recliner with it on my lap. Or on the couch with a blanket. Can you feel where I'm going with this?  I think that it has something to do with STATIC. You can get static from all sorts of different things.  So,OK lets try using it like they do at techville. For a few days now I have set it on a desk away from blankets, sweatpants, etc.. And I have NOT experienced any flickering lines. Hmmm. Now there are a lot of different ways to get static. Do a search on Google before you say no,no. You can receive static just from plugging things into your notebook. Anyway from my experience I believe it is some sort of static issue. Now we have to try to get tech department to walk around on carpet in there socks and use it on their lap, plug headphones in it,curl up in a blanket on the couch and use it. Then they will experience these annoying horizontal flickering lines. As for it having the flickering problem when I pulled it out of the box, after technical looked at it, I believe there was static from the box and foam it was packed in.
