x120e crash related to the Conexant Audio Driver update

2011-08-18, 0:02 AM

Among the other issues that I have, I installed a few updates this week via the lenovo update and got a bad crash, BSOD, tried a couple of times and got the same.

I tried one update after the other and found out it's the Conexant Audio Driver update, version 8.32.27.0. Tried manually from the link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_NL/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018812 and it crashed again.

Now, I have no sound, apparently during the update process before the crash it unistalled the old version. lenovo team, as you always claim it's my computer problem but don't replace it or contact me properly yet, can you at least tell me where do I find the previous Conexant Audio Driver version so I can have sound?   :smileysad:

I have no sound...

I wonder if anyone managed this update successfully.

Go into Device Manager, go to the Conexant device properties, Driver tab, Roll Back Driver.

Thanks Colonel, but strangely rollback is turned off and it says that I have driver version 8.32.27.0 from 3/30/2011

while the new version is the same 8.32.27.0 from 03 Aug 2011.

My guess is that the lenovo team didn't gave it a new version number and corrupted the version I have.

To make sure you understand the condition, when I click on the sound icon I see: 'No audio device is installed'.

Any idea?

instead of rollback I clicked uninstall, after a couple of minutes the device was installed automaticially to the 3/30/2011 version and the sound is back.

Running the lenovo update doesn't show the new driver that caused the original error, I wonder if lenovo try to fix it now.

Sounds like the install might've failed half way and left the system in limbo. If you have no issues, I'd just leave it as is.

Don't expect a solution from lenovo. They don't really care and they don't give this model to their support team to try and solve.

What solved it for me was:

Device Manager --> Conexant device properties --> Driver tab, --> Uninstall, after a couple of minutes the device was installed automaticially to the 3/30/2011 version and the sound came back.

I just experienced the same problem, attempting to update my drivers through the lenovo ThinkVantage driver update utility. BSOD :smileymad: Haven't seen that for a few years! I couldn't roll back the driver either. The option wasn't there. I uninstalled, but my driver hadn't auto-magically reinstalled after 20 minutes, so I used the Windows system restore utility. First time ever. There was a restore point available about an hour before the update. It worked like a charm. Sound is back. Hope this helps someone out there, even if it doesn't solve the problem of updating.

hey Omineca,

have you tried updating the drivers manually via our support site - http://support.lenovo.com?

if you have, was there any errors?
