Re: X200 keyboard flex?

2008-12-24, 5:50 AM

MaxPower,

I called Lenovo support and complained about the keyboard.  They are going to send somebody to look at the problem -  I am glad I chose onsite service option for my thinkpad.  I will keep you posted.

Hope your new blackplate solves your keyboard flex. Good luck!

Re: Keyboard Flex discussion - T400 / T500 / W500 ThinkPad customers

2009-01-13, 17:33 PM

Hello Tim_Lenovo,

I just want to let you know that my x200s has keyboard flex as well. Right above the hdd the whole keyboard is bending a lot.

If i press some keys at the lower left the whole keyboard backplate hits the notebook chassis. This is really annoying and noisy!

Feels like a cheap keyboard. I know there are different keyboards for the x200 models as well..strong and weak back-plates. My friend's x200 keyboard does not flex at all...i paid extra for the S and now i have to deal with this problem. (I found a picture where you can see the actual difference, I'll post the link if needed)

I know there is a thread for the x200 but do not delete my post...please. I need your help Tim...the Lenovo support hotline knows nothing about this issue. I bought my x200s one month ago and I do not want to send it in since Lenovo support believes I'm just making this up.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Maxpower,

Would you be able to remove your keyboard and tell me the FRU part number listed on the bottom of it? If your friend with an X200 & no keyboard flex could do the same, that would be helpful as well.

Hi Tim_Lenovo,

first of all thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate it.

My FRU NO. 42T3674

My friend is on a business trip, but I'll try to call him. Maybe someone in this forum can help out? Should be enough people with x200 and a good keyboard :)

Edit: I would even replace my keyboard with a non-flex US keyboard.

Thanks again Tim.

Hi Tim,

There seems to be 2 different FRUs available for the x200 and x200s:

German 42T3740 42T3674

My friend has got the 42T3740 and 2 other people told me that their FRU is the 42T3674 (weak back-plate) but I'm still not sure if the FRU can really tell us whether it is the strong back-plate keyboard or not.

So I'm not sure what to do...

I found a x200 keyboard on ebay which has defintely the strong back-plate:

Thinkpad X200 Keyboard US Black 42T3737

I hope you can help me, your my last chance..since the t60 keyboard won't fit in the x200s.

Greetings

Update:

https://www-304.ibm.com/shop/europe/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/OrderItemDisplay?langId=-3&storeId=276&catalogId=-276&krypto=X1f2oDXZS%2FC6m7Slm5EN9ksnitn0e4bp&ddkey=https:AddByPartNumber

As you can see there is a 30€ price difference...the 70€ one is definitely the keyboard with no flex!

@Tim i wrote you a PM, I hope you can order the keyboard (42T3740) for me..

Re: x200s Keyboard Flex

2009-01-24, 15:01 PM

I too experience keyboard flex in my recently purchased X200s. I mostly experience it in the upper left corner, with Esc and the volume buttons, and in the lower left corner with the Fn/Shift/Ctrl-keys. The lower left corner seems to be loose or something, because the keyboard makes a much louder noise when using keys in that area, which is quite annoying (since it disturbs other people in quiet rooms).

I have a German X200s imported to Sweden, so maybe I'd get a Swedish keyboard (though it would be purely aesthetic, since we have the same keys), but I wouldn't like to buy a flexy keyboard. Any conclusion regarding this matter?

Another thing, according to lenovo.com my warranty expires in November 2011, when I made the purchase in January 2009. Though according to the box I received it in, the computer was built in November 2008. But shouldn't the warranty reflect when I bought the computer rather than it's manufacturing date?

Otherwise, a fantastic computer so far!
