x201 boot from mini pci express/express card ssd

2010-06-19, 22:43 PM

Can i install a mini pci express ssd like one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150636%201421548207&name=Mini%20PCIe%20%28PATA%29

Or an express card  ssd like one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150636%201421530857&name=ExpressCard

And boot from it? Will the x201 recognize it?

Also, any recommendations about any particular models/brands i should get? I'm looking for a 16gb+ that's not overly expensive.

pci-express ssd won't work. Express Card ssd will work, but don't think you can boot from it.

it would be a great to boot from small n fast ssd and use normal for data only.

Re: boot from mini PCI-e SSD possible?

Hello,

I have never heard of anyone doing this before on an X-series ThinkPad, so you may have to test it yourself to see what works.  I would strongly suggest purchasing the Mini-PCIe SSD from a vendor with a liberal return policy, in case it does not work.
