x201 speaker problems (Fixed! There is no problem with the Hardware at least to mine)

[ Edited ]

Updated:

Well, got my x201 for few days and the sound was still coming from LEFT side. At the begining I wasn't planning to install any personal programs into it cuz I know it has speaker issue and Im gonna replace it or get repaired.

Now today, I can't wait the new driver to be released and I start to use it whatever I want. I just started with the OS. The original system was Windows 7 Home premium 32-bit. But since I uninstalled that and replace with a Windows 7 Utimate 32-bit and  something happens. BOTH speakers are working. So I guess there is no problem with the hardware.

Does anyone here receive the x201 ?  I was wondering if there is any speaker problems. I've heard some x201 speakers only has one sound that comes from the left one. It should be coming from two sides.

Re: x201 speaker problems

I have the same problem.

It is a common problem on X201. Hope lenovo can solve it ASAP.

It seems that Lenovo hasn't done much work on testing their new models.

Re: x201 speaker problems

I have one on order, hopefully the new ones shipping out will have this issue resolved. I wouldn't mind replacing the speaker myself if they shipped me the part. Smiley Happy

So what are you going to do to handle this issue?  Will you go for a replacement or wait for Lenovo to fix that ?

Thanks

Re: x201 speaker problems

I don't think it is a hardware problem. Changing a speaker will not fix the problem since there is nothing wrong with the speaker itself. Hope a new driver can fix the problem.

Dear Lenovo: Could you please investigate this issue?????

just saw this thread - don't want to hijack the other one with more general questions.

Yeah - I guess sound does only seem to come out of the left speaker. But its still adequate sound. To clarify - I can sit here at my desk and have Hulu running and not have any issue with the sound not being loud enough.

I'm not going to worry about it for now - I won't be using this machine for many audio-related applications.  I'm sure the driver issue will be sorted out in good time.

X201SPEAKER PROBLEM (STEREO NOT WORKING)

There seems to be some production problem with the new X201 models regarding the speakers. Quite a few people complain that only ONE of the TWO speakers works, even though the x201 is supposed to be stereo (unlike the lighter X201s model, which is still mono, like the X200 models). Apparently, Lenovo messed up sth., but it's not clear whether it's a hardware issue or sth. to do with faulty drivers. See also the thread at thinkpads (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=85733)

Has anyone here experienced this problem with an X201? Are all models of the first batches affected? I'm thinking of buying an X201i (the cheaper corei3model, which is also supposed to have stereo speakers), as several retailers have it in stock, but I would hate to spend weeks returning it to Lenovo because of the faulty speaker and having to wait for a replacement/repair.

Re: x201 speaker problems

I got my Thinkpad X201 5 days ago and only the left speaker works. I am going to return it to Lenovo. A new machine that just came out of factory should not have any problems.  I purchased the warranty which I was not planing to use it for a brand new laptop.

Lenovo either has no quality control or they knew that the X201 has this problem, but they shipped it out anyway, just hoping that their customers are stupid enough that they would not notice or they would just accept it as they way it is. I hope that anyone who has this problem will contact Lenovo and let them know that they need to do something about this!!!

Re: x201 speaker problems

Lenovo will charge you 15% restocking fee for that.

So I just sent it to repair.

Re: x201 speaker problems

We are working to release a fix for this issue spec. It appears to be a driver issue, not a hardware issue so I urge you to wait until the new driver is release before you send your system in for service. I don't control the driver release timing but my current expectations is that it should be released by the end of next week. Thanks.
