x230 received, few issues (keyboard, screen). Thoughts?

First, it arrived with a broken key (left Ctrl fell out when I opened the lid).  I have a new keyboard on order (they said 2 business days to arrive), so no biggie there.  But is the keyboard issue common?

Second, the screen has a bright spot in the lower left part of the screen.  Is that normal?

Thanks!

Oh, and one device in my hardware manager says it is disabled.

"USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller"

Says I have the latest software too...

if you got a bright spot, then you should get it repaired or replaced under DOA period.

The broken keyboard issue is not very common, but there are a few people whom report that they had issue with the Function key falling off.

Hey there Coronadoisdead,

I found this thread on USB IF xHCI USB Host Contoller that may provide insight on a solution to that. Additionally, I definitely agree with Jin Li, if you are seeing spots or anything unusual in your screen that should be this early on, it may be prudent to contact service. There number for the US is 1-800-426-7378. Good Luck and thanks for joining the Lenovo Community!

Thank you both for the replies.

I have a new keyboard ordered, but it is backordered.

For the screen, it is just one corner and not too much brighter.  Is any spotting at all uncommon?  I thought this was a common issue with side-lit LED's, but if that is not the case I will certainly get it serviced.

Thanks!

Here is a picture.  Like I said, slight (lower left corner).  And I'd hate to trade a spot for even a single dead pixel... those things drive me NUTS Smiley Happy  You can really only see it on a black screen...

Hey there Coronadoisdead,

Thanks for linking the picture! I can definitely see what your talking about (I didn't see it at first). It is good that the keyboard is at least ordered, and it hopefully shouldn't be to long. With the screen, it ultimately is your decision what route you are willing to take, and how comfortable you are with it's current status. At the very least, continue to monitor it.

Yes, that's common issue with crappy LED backlight in general (that's why professional monitors still rely on CCFL backlight). The issue is that much visible (and annoying) because of buggy X220/X230 BIOS that always sets the maximum display brightness after power on. Older ThinkPads were able to remember the brightness level across power off/on cycle Smiley Frustrated Lenovo is refusing to fix the BIOS bug since X220 even though there are tons of reports http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Backlight-runs-at-Max-Brightness-at-boot-how-f... . With a lower brightness level (applied later during Windows loading) the backlight quality issue becomes almost non-visible (I use step 6) and you can enjoy good contrast ratio (over 800:1) of the display, in case of IPS "Premium" one, of course.
