x270 Battery 2 plugged in not charging

2019-01-16, 9:18 AM

Hi everyone,

I have a very annoying problem with my x270: when plugged in, only one of the batteries charges.

I've tried the power cycle, running on one battery then the other, removing & re-installing the Microsoft drivers, all the suggestions from the other posts on the forum but nothing works.

A friend of mine suggested booting into Ubuntu from a USB drive, and what do you know - both batteries are charging fine, which would point to the problem being with a driver/Windows 10 x64 v1067.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I have an intermittent problem with an X240 and Battery 1 not charging/not found!  I suspect it's related to your problem, but in my case, it happens sometimes (usually when I could make use of that battery, of course) but not all the time.

I have the same problem, came after a recent windows/lenovo update. For me it is battery #1 that isn't charging (at least not displaying correctly, but seems to charge, since I can use the pc long after 0%)

you all should be using windows 10 version 1903 as older versions are not being fully supported

I own: T400 T500 X220 running Windows 10 x64 & My X230 runs Linux for my webserver. I also own an Apple MacBook along with an iPad Pro 12.9", both with 256GB SSD

Strangly I had the opposite experience, I upgraded windows, and then it stopped charging. Pulled the batt, and disable the backup in BIOS and did the 30 sec. power button hold (not sure if that really matters.) Now the battery charges.

>>you all should be using windows 10 version 1903 as older versions are not being fully supported<<

Dear vegan-fanatic, if you're still here, could you please be a bit more explicit?  Are you saying that later versions of Windows 10 don't support the old X-Series hardware, or are you saying that you need 1903 or newer to support it?

I'm also unclear about why we're (apparently) discussing Windows 10 here, as I assume Lenovo provides its own, hardware-specific power-management drivers for these Laptops.  Or are people finding that the Lenovo drivers don't work either?

Best Regard -- JCW2

I have Windows 10 running on T400 and T500 laptops fine. I have more RAM installed, 8GB each now. They both also have SSD in them instead of hard disks.

I always upgrade windows to the latest version, and if necessary I reset windows which is not that bad

>>...battery charge has sequence for windows mode...<<

Dear Jan -- What, exactly, do you mean by this statement in your post above?  What is "windows mode?"

My internal (presumably "coin-cell") battery is apparently not charging, although the main (removable) battery is -- see https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/What-is-Battery-1-Can-it-be-ignored-in-Windows-10/m-p/5071438?page=1#5286227.  I don't understand how Windows 10 enumerates "Battery 1" and "Battery 2," nor how the charging of the internal battery is supposed to work.  I also don't understand why users appear to be using Windows drivers for this, whereas I'm sure Lenovo has its own, presumably more appropriate, drivers.  More explanation would be greatly appreciated... -- JCW2

Button batteries usually last 7-10 years, main batteries may last 3 years before they are worn out

if the battery is not charging, try cleaning the contacts with an eraser and see if that helps
