x301 BSOD on monitor unplug

2008-12-10, 20:06 PM

I have an x301 and utilize a second monitor on the Displayport.  The problem is that I need to move my computer several times a day and when I unplug the secondary monitor from the Displayport the computer BSODs.  This happens even if I put the computer in Standby mode before unplugging.  If I unplug in standby the computer BSODs upon restart.

Using XP with SP2.

Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks.

Re: XA BSOD on monitor unplug

VFXGUY,

Lenovo has posted a driver update with this fix.  Go to downloads and search downloads for the Intel Display Driver for Windows. Normally drivers seem to appear here first and later become available using Lenovo system update.

Best of luck.

Re: XA BSOD on monitor unplug

I have XP rather than Vista and the updates you recommended were Vista.  But heck, I'm desperate so I decided to try it.  I did the download of the Intel Display Driver for Vista 32 bit and it seems to work.  I no longer crash upon removal of the monitor cable when I have to go mobile.so for the moment it appears to have worked.

As a side note, it has also gotten me one step closer to solving my problem with the x301 crashing and not able to drive an Apple Cinema display.  The x301 still doesn't drive the display but it doesn't BSOD when I try it.  Baby steps.

Thanks for the tip.

Listed below is the update ID for the new driver download.

Looks like I spoke too soon.  It is very odd.  The system worked well for the day after I did the install.  The next day I went back and had the problems all over again.  So I am back to getting crashes when I unplug any monitors.
