x61 BSOD on XP install

2008-03-07, 20:56 PM
I am trying to load winxp pro on my x61 thinkpad that came with vista basic.
I am using  usb to sata adapter to connect a plextor dvd/cd drive to the thinkpad.
I boot off the xp disc then after it loads files and wants to go to the set partition screen we get a BSOD 0x00000007B error every time.   Tried several cd's.  Tried two different cd drives.  Same error each time.
Any suggestions?

Try going into BIOS, (F1 when booting), select the Config menu, scroll down and select SATA, change the setting to Compatibity Mode.
Or you can get the driver here which you need to install during the XP installation, or afterwards if you use the above solution.
