Re: Helix, windows 8.1. Sleep and power off not working correctly.

2013-10-23, 21:01 PM

Mark,

The behavior differs only for shutdown command with keyboard attached. Slate mode seems to be working fine. Sleep functionality works with and without keyboard.

As OP mentioned that the problem I described is different from the title, I've created a new post here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/Helix-Keyboard-Dock-Starts-Up-Tablet-after-10-15-min-of-shutdown/td-p/1280789

Something in the keyboard signals to the tablet to boot within 10-15 minutes after shutdown. However, if sleep mode is disabled using GP and Power Options, the tablet will not boot, but will require hard reset to start up again.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

thanks for your reply Mark.

Do you have any fixes or updates that will sort out the sleep mode issue?  My Helix is pretty useless to me as a tablet unles this is fixed.

@ WooHooMe

i had some time and tried a few things. First i tried refreshing my pc, but for some reason i couldn't do it. So i did a clean install(i know this is not a solution, just sharing my results). After installing win8, i just did the upgrades(windows and lenovo) without installing any programs. Aftter that i installed win8.1 and everything seems to be ok. Sleep and fast startup works ok and i haven't had any other issues. I even tried streaming videos over the network and still the sleep function works.

I really don't know what the problem is. The only thing different from my last install is that i didn't download any drivers from the lenovo support website but instead i did all my upgrades through windows and lenovo update.

I still think the problem may resurface at some point, especially since it's origins are unknown.
What i make of all this is that microsoft intended for 8.1 to be more of a standalone version and less of an update.
.

The only thing that might help is if we compared driver version numbers from some devices such as network adapter(centrino sth) and bluetooth coz i think it was the closer suspects i had last time.

Betreff: Helix, windows 8.1. Sleep and power off not working correctly.

I've the same issue as you all.

I tested a little bit and find out, that you can shut down the helix even it is docked. When you have windows 8.1. If you shut down the helix over a right click on the old new windows button in the bottom left corner it works fine. But if you shut down the helix over the charms bar it doesn't work. It's realy strange. Hope it would be fixed soon.

Wow, thats a great find, you are completly right, if you use the start button and right click to shut down instead of charms it works perfect. nice work around until they get it fixed.

I confirm still having exactly the same problem as lucas_oertil described.

I have reinstalled the helix from windows 8.1 to windows 8 to upgrade again up to windows 8.1. I only used windows updates to update windows (no microsoft drivers) and system update from Lenovo for the rest. Still no luck.

I have a Helix 8GB i7 256GB SSD with keyboard dock.

Hope it will be fixed soon, too.

FYI, I never did solve the issue with sleep mode not working.  On top of that I had issues with my wi-fi adapter and was forced to refresh my laptop.

I refreshed, used windows update, installed 8.1 from ISO from MSDN site.  Did the usual updates again and so far everythign seems to work properly with the exception of my Matrox drivers and dual monitors.  The resolution isnt right but much better.

Hi,

In our company we have 5 Lenovo's Helix, all up-to-date with Windows Update and Lenovo System Update.

One of them has the same problem described in the original post.

So, when powering down the screen goes black, but the Helix does not power off. The LED indicator keeps burning red and also the CPU stays relatively warm. After about 10-15 minutes the laptop finally powers off.

When putting the laptop in sleepmode, the LED indicator stays on (no blinking) and also the CPU stays warm. If we want to turn the machine back on, we first need to press and hold the powerbutton for about 5-10 seconds. After that everything seems to be working normal again.

We need a fix for this!
