Create a partition in tablet x60

2008-06-20, 21:48 PM
Hello,

he situation:
i have a x60 tablet with an ultrabase with included a optical drive and i received that without cd or something to format and reinstalling it just a recovery program included. I wanted to format and install XP tablet 2005 because i have the CD. Windows XP teblet 2005 run correctly but there is too many program i dun want and the comp is a little bit slow even if i defragment or clean disk...

1st try-I tried to boot by the XP tablet 2005 CD. Everything run correctly until it asks me if i want to install (erase all, manage myself partition....), repair (i dont want..) and leave the setup. When i tape Enter to continue to install and fall in the page of "create, delete, partition"--> it says there is no hardisk...I don't know what i can do. Firstly i thought the hardisk haven't been booted then i change the boot order and put all HDD drive in the first. No change...

2nd try-I tried to run the CD from the workstation of the windows, -->new installation-->upload new specifique drivers-->next...--->i shut down and boot--->windows 2005 tablet Setup--->blue screen with at the bottom setup'sfiles loading...And when it writes "Setup start with windows"--->blue screeen of death with a message that the hardrive has a problem... i think the recovery partition blocks this application, have i right?

3rd try-Finally i despair and excute thinkpad recovery with the Thinkvantage button during the bios boot.  And recover the laptop with the only option of "erase all date" and "install all factory application" BUT in one partition the C:.

Finally? What can i do? can application cut the c: into two part? beacause there is system apps in and sure thinkpad apps will block this type of cut.

PS: my english is a little bit poor. Hoping you understand. Thanks :smileyhappy:

Well, in my opinion, I would go the third route; then use programs like Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director Suite to resize the main partion and create a new partition.

With this route, it should be an easiest way if you have the partition manager program as mentioned above.

In case you don't have the particular program, I guess you have to have another drive to swap a data to create another partition. The idea is you have to backup whole partition to an image file with ThinkVantage R&R. Then you gotta delete that parition to create 2 new partitions as you want. After this, you have to get into ThinkVantage R&R again to restore the image file to main partition. That's all. What I recommended is creating ThinkVantage R&R bootable CD or make a bootable external drive. It's going to be much more comfortable.

Anyway, I still prefer the first method since it eliminates lots of works and is pretty simple method. If you have any doubt, please ask before doing it.

Thank you for your quick answer, i will try ASAP your solution with extern apps. If it doesn't work i will ask you to format with an iso image.

Thanks regards.^^

Windows XP doesn't have the S-ATA driver required to recognise the hard drive. Go into the BIOS Config menu and change the S-ATA setting from AHCI to Compatability Mode. You can install the driver afterwards.

Happy installing.
