montevina-based systems (such as the X200 tablet) support 3 Gb/sec speeds using SSDs.   traditional hard drives are limited to 1.5 Gb/sec throughput.

Yes the specs on the X61 tablet say the controller is an ICH8.  If you read on Intel's site about this, it is SATA II.  I have an X61 tablet that came w/a 5400RPM SATA I HDD and I upgraded to a 7200RPM SATA II HDD and it made a huge difference.

thanks. but I am asking X200tablet.

I have X61t, and it does "support SATA300" with SATA150 speed. not SATA3.0Gb/s performance.

Because of hardware specification and Lenovo's implementation are not the same, this is such a hard question.

Like you experienced with X61T, it's supposed to support SATA-2 by the hardware without any problem, but Lenovo decided not to support it and gave "power efficient" as an excuse. As a result, you may need to ask Lenovo's employee (who knows, of course) for a real answer.
