Betreff: Does anyone have x220t pen working properly on edges?

2011-08-06, 0:04 AM

thanks for the Update guys. It's good to know the problem could be properly communicated to an engineer, who can now work the issue. Good luck to him to coordinate with wacom and other engineers. As I said... using calibration alone I see potential for a great "fix".

I'll be checking in from time to time to see what became of this.

cu "soon" ;)

Thanks for the more detailed update Mark.  I'm just holding my breath hoping this thing gets fixed so I can buy one again since I already returned my original one.

A question for any of the Lenovo reps who have posted so far - do you know if the solution to this problem is going to be a driver update or an actual change in the hardware? I'm looking into a tablet/slate with a wacom digitizer for college note taking, and am currently torn between the lenovo x220t, the asus ep121, and the fujitsu t731. Given that it's sandy bridge, has good battery life, a very high quality screen and has a great keyboard/trackpad, the lenovo would be my clear choice among those if it wasn't for the edge issue.

That being said, I'm an incoming freshman, and I want to buy my college laptop and get it setup the way I like it before September 19th, my move-in day, so I don't have to be worrying about it as I make the high school to college transition.

So, long story short, I want to make my decision and buy as soon as possible - so do you know if this is a hardware issue or not? and if not, can you please update when you do know exactly how you're going to solve the problem, even if you haven't yet?

thank you very much

PS: random question (not trying to derail the topic) - edge issues or not, does the lenovo have palm rejection so I don't have to worry about dragging my hand on the screen while I use the stylus? couldn't find this answered in any reviews. thanks again

It is great that you can give us updates on what is happening. Lenovo has such a reputation for quality and it is a shame that a lot of these products are defective.

If you could let me know one thing though: If I were to buy the x220t now and it had the edge problem (hardware or otherwise) would I be sure to get a replacement or a fix even though the return limit has passed? (not that I want to wait very long). Lenovo isn't going to just abandon a whole line and make a new one with a fix?

For everyone else: would you suggest I buy the x220t despite the edge problem and are there models that do not have the edge problem or is it every single one of them?

@tommy1993 What it seems to me from what I've read is that the x220t does have palm rejection but only while the laptop detects the pen tip. This does mean that if you have a tendancy to lift the pen up very high when your not using it you might get annoyed from time to time.

Please take care of X200T and X201T users too since they also have this issue.

I still dont know whats the issue is it software or hardware related?

I don't mind waiting for the fix but it you don't provide it to the current users l won't buy lenovo anymore!

@psanches: do you know if there's any way to turn off the capacitive part of the touch screen completely, so it only accepts pen input? even if I had to do this manually it would probably make my life easier

The utility was written by a user named Dant.

tommy1993,

Here's a thread where they used some different utilities to disable touch.

The second link is the utility.

Read the thread.

thank you very much! that looks to be exactly what I wanted.

now, the only thing holding me back from hitting the purchase button is worries that the edging problem is a hardware issue that has to be corrected. once that either gets fixed or a lenovo rep says it will be fixed with a driver/software update, you have one guarnateed customer =)
