Helix 1st Gen won't boot to OS after POST

2019-07-03, 13:58 PM

I7 helix 3698-4SU - It was working fine a couple of months ago, but since getting an iPad Pro I left it sit for so long the BIOS battery died and the settings reset (time date error, enter bios etc). Since then I haven’t been able to get it to boot anything, the internal HDD or external USB’s.

I can get into the BIOS, change settings, select boot devices, etc with no issue. However it won’t run Lenovo diognostics or boot any operating systems.

I changed the HDD to a Samsung 512 evo850 a few years ago which gave it a new lease on life, I’ve pulled the drive and error checked it in another machine, seems fine. I’ve also pulled it apart and thermal repasted the CPU (did this a few years ago, wasn’t crusty this time), no change. I honestly can’t remember what settings I’d changed in the BIOS to play around and tweak things over time and keep it playing nicely with windows 10.

Any suggestions hugely appreciated, was hoping to pass this guy onto my brother to help him out.

Hi !

Have you tried pressing the Emergency Reset Hole and observe if the machine will boot up?

Reference link.
