Helix 20CG won't wake from sleep mode

2014-12-06, 14:06 PM

Hi

After doing all updates (windows/lenovo) and ensuring latest lenovo power managers are installed, my Helix 20CG will still not wake from sleep mode. This problem has been persistant since the second day I had the computer.

If the Helix is in sleep mode for more than 2 hours and you press the power button, the screen will not turn on. However if the tablet is docked on the ultrabook keyboard the green light on the Fn key will briefly flicker. Also if you press the power button and then immediately hit the windows button on the bottom of the tablet it will vibrate a bit, but in both cases the screen does not turn on.

After continuously hitting the power button for ~5-10 minutes the screen will eventually turn on.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks,

Brandon

Re: Helix 20CG won't wake from sleep mode

2014-12-13, 16:54 PM

For the past week, I've been using the Helix and just shutting it down every time I walk away from it. This morning I put it in sleep mode walked away for an hour or so and when I went to wake it up, by pressing the power button, the green light on the Fn key flashed but it would not wake up. I held the power button down for 4 seconds to do a hard reboot. I checked the system log, and when the computer was "asleep" the following warnings were recorded:

Does anyone know what these devices are or have any recommendations for getting this thing to be able to wake up from sleep mode?

Thanks!

Re: Helix 20CG won't wake from sleep mode

Hi,

Can anyone that has a Helix 20CG respond if they aren't having any problems with their Helix waking up? I'm trying to determine if this is just a problem with my machine, and it would be really helpful if people could just confirm that other Helix's are working okay.

Thanks!

I'm not having an issue with it not waking up.  That part works fine for me.  Network reconnect is an issue though when it does sleep.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I've recently installed some "optional" windows updates, and now it is waking up from sleep fine. However, as you mentioned when it does wake up, the network is no longer connected. If I unclick the "connect automatically" box next to the network name, it seems that it no longer loses the network connection when it wakes up, however the internet is extremely slow (although it does still work) until I manually disconnect and reconnect.

If you unclick the box do you experience the same symptoms?

I guess they just don't have decent network card drivers yet...

i have a similar problem with 3 units!

I instlaled all the updates.

this problem was not there since day one, started few a month ago with 1 unit and now all 3 are doing it.

After an extended sleep (overnight for example) you press the power button, the red light goes on in the back of the tablet. the function button work (and mute) and sometimes you can even make the tablet go "ding" (basically the tablet is on. but the screen is off.

only way i can get it back on is holding the power 5 sec and rebooting it.

I installed all optional updates :(

any ideas?

I´d beg on the graphics driver. See https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Tablet-and/Helix-2nd-G-Still-blank-screen-on-some-events/td-p/2264538.

To verify, hibernate instead of sleep. If the screen returns, check the driver version. If it´s 20, this is a known issue. If it´s 10.18.10, you may be affected by the issue linked above.

I was able to roll back the old driver and install the old one, problem is solved!

For anybody else trying to roll back here are a few extra hints...

You need to delete the display driver in the device manager then go to  Windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository and find all the intel drivers and delete them from there.

Once they have been deleted you will be able to re-install the old 10.XX version and problem is resolved!

Note that you have to also download a tool from microsoft in order to hide the windows update that automatically installs this driver or the problem we come back in a few days :(

Major Pain....
