Helix Cursor moves when clicking trackpad

2013-11-10, 23:52 PM

Hi!

After trying it, I think I don't like this new trackpad of Helix. At first the idea of combining the buttons with the touch area seemed interesting since it gives you more space. The problem is that since the button area is also touch sensitive, when I click the mouse cursor slightly moves. Unless I click very carefully. This is a very annoying!

And I don't see it being configurable in any way. I would like to disable cursor movement when I touch the lower edge of the trackpad but I don't see such setting in the control panel.

Any ideas?

Did you know that for the left mouse button you don't need press down the left, lower corner? You can simply slightly tap anywhere. It works much better.

I found this to, but my work-around is to press the pad down to click (rather than use the button areas) once I've got the mouse cursor in the right place. For right clicks, I press with two fingers.

However, if Lenovo do produce a Helix 2, I would like to see them go back to having proper buttons.

If you want to use the Trackpoint, the best way is: Deactivate the TouchPad in the BIOS. The Touch function will be deactivated, as well as the Tap-to-click function.

After this, the TrackPoint buttons work flawless

Thanks guys, I'm already away of these workarounds.

I would expect to see some kind of configuration that will disable touch at the area of the buttons. It seems that something like that is not available which means that Lenovo really thinks that this is the right design. I don't understand where they find this confidence! I really hope they will release a new version of the trackpad configuration software to include such an option.

New question: How can we officially send software requests to lenovo?

I have a T540p and my clickpad does the same thing. This is the first time that I have had a clickpad and I really don't like it but the problem you mention is probably the worst aspect of this item (i.e. when I click the pad the cursor moves some). Like you suggest it would be great if the movement of the cursor could be set to not move at least when clicking in certain areas like the bottom left.

If anyone finds a way to disable the movement of the cursor when one touches the lower left area of the pad please let us know.

Thanks,

David

Hi Lenovo and Helix owners,

I find the trackpad to be very poor.  The aformentioned issue exists for me as well and the sensitivity for two finger motion seems inaccurate, in that after using two finger motion then using one finger it contiues to behave as if two fingers are pressed for a noticable period that is a nuisance.  The pointer moving when clicking however is the biggest issue. This should be fixed with a driver update please!!

Aside from the trackpad, slightly squeesed keyboard, and a issue where the device does not seem to turn off when the lid is closed and put away, still running on battery, this seems like a good machine. However mine may have been damaged by being put away under that condition in the laptop bag, and got very hot, now it seems to behave erratically. I will be observing this and possibly need to submit for warranty replacement.  Sorry for the digression.

Will
