[ Helix ] Rear camera picture malformed, but video is fine. Software or hardware problem?

2014-04-19, 16:34 PM

Hi, it's is my first post here, so  welcome everyone :smileyhappy:

I've just purchased Helix 3702-3LO (i7, 8GB, 128GB, Win8Pro 64bits upgraded to 8.1) and today found some problem. Pictures taken by rear camera are malformed. The picture looks like:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5MpmFU1Jqq8Ym5ucGt6WDhUQXM/edit?usp=sharing

But at the same time video taken by the camera is perfect. So how do you think, is it software or hardware problem?

I've already tried refresh drivers, update what was possible to update, but still no imrovement, I still want avoid sending the computer to the service. It looks like some part of the image (bottom) is paste in the middle. Looks like codecs problem???

But now I'm not sure if it is only software problem or may be some how hardware (video is recorded is fine).

Thank you.

the problem is an update from win 8.1

you have to disable following update

ait webcam

in device manager you have to choose the old driver

in german

microsoft usb verbundgeräte

the devicename has to be following name

integrated rear camera - not ait webcam

I have the exact same issue. It used to be fine a while ago, so I suspect this is because of some updates. I hope Lenovo will release a driver that fixes this issue soon !!

Yes, you right.

BUT

I've reinstalled the Win 8 and then applied all the updates and the taken pictures were FINE.

BUT

then I've installed win8.1 again and then problem came back. Pictures were malformed like below again.

Then next updates made no changes to that issue.

I'm still not able take proper picture :smileysad:

I am having the same issue, same malformation to pics.  It looks like two different camera drivers are installed -- Integrated Camera and AIT Webcam.  The latter was installed recently (although I definitely didn't install anything on purpose!)  Today was the first time I've used the camera in a few weeks, and this is the first time I've seen the problem.

Same here! Fresh Windows 8.1 install with the newest drivers. I decided to check the rear camera and discovered a distorted line just below the middle of any picture I've taken. I though the camera was broken but video was recorded without any issues. Looks like  a driver issue.. Hope for the fix!

Thank you kroe, you were absolutely right!

I rolled back the driver and it's fixed now, I should think about this in first place! :-)

"Device manager" > "Imaging devices" > "AIT Webcam" > Right Mouse Button Menu > "Properties" > Tab "Driver" > "Roll back driver" > OK
and now I have, like you wrote, "Integrated Rear Camera" instead of "AIT Webcam"

And the photos are perfect now :-) Thx again.

So.. problem SOLVED! Thx

I have used this fix on 5 of the 6 Helix tablets we have and it has worked great. However, we have one tablet that is greying out (unable to select) "Roll Back Driver". Does anyone have an idea what the issue could be with this?

*Edit* I also noticed that the options under "imaging device" show, in this order, AIT Webcam and Integrated Camera. On the ones that the fix worked they show Integrated Camera and Integrated Rear Camera. The Helix with the issue does not have Integrated Rear Camera.
