Helix keyboard issue

2013-05-04, 14:26 PM

On the Thinkpad Helix how to use the F-keys and leave the End-key to be End and not Insert??

The keyboard-dock of the Helix does not have a separate Insert key (but Fn+End)

Now I need the F-keys to be default.. but I don't want to switch End to be Insert

These kind of changes made the Helix to be unusable for Visual Studio :(

sorry don't understand your question. Would pressing Fn and End keys together solve your problem?

Yeah it would...

The problem is just because I need to use End AND the F-keys together at the same time...

I don't want to use Fn+ anything because it's just weird you can't use End at the same time with the F-Keys...

(It becomes Insert)

You could try using Microsoft Keyboard Layout Editor to create a custom keyboard layout, though I'm not sure it allows remapping the F1-12 keys.

This helped me too

Thanks!

For now I use "KeyTweak" I just leave Fn-Lock on to use the F-Keys...

Then I remapped the Insert key to be End :)

I found the link from here:

Thanks!

Another option: AutoHotkey

Glad you found a way!

Th advantage of a custom layout over AutoHotkey here is that it won't leave a program running in background, while if I recall correctly, AutoHotkey has to be running for the new keys to work. Still, that wouldn't be a big deal, but it's always cleaner with less applications running at start up. :p

I have a similar question--when I hit the "end" key, my Helix always interpets it as "insert." I have to use the Fn key to use "end." From what I've read, it sounds like this is backwards. And the key is obviously labled "End," with "Insert" as the secondary label. How can I reverse this behavior, so that pressing the key by itself gives me "End" and the Fn modifier gives me "Insert"?

I've successfully used SharpKeys to remap End/Insert and PrtSc/Applications Context menu (that is completely missing from this keyboard!). The good thing about SharpKeys is that it updates registry, i.e. no software is needed besides Windows, you don't need to wait for something like AutoHotKey to load and run its scripts, not to mention memory you save.
