International power cords

2012-09-06, 14:11 PM

Hello all,

I'll be moving from the US to the UAE in a few months, and I'll have to switch plugs for my laptop. Can anyone point me to the page where I can buy a British-style 3-pin square power cord for my X201's AC adaptor? I've searched everywhere on Lenovo's site, but I can't find it for the life of me. I don't need to buy a new adaptor, just a new plug.

'morning and welcome to the community!

there are 2 part numbers on pg248 of the hardware maintenance manual:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43Y6632_09.pdf
42T5035, 42T5120

neither is found in the US service parts store:

http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/PromotionDisplay?promoName=parts_r&catalogId=-840&storeId=260785&langId=-1

but they are found in the Europe/UK service parts store:

http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/europe/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=-826&storeId=826&langId=826&dualCurrId=20&categoryId=3063814

where 42T5120 is listed as in stock for £4.68 while the other part is listed as "call".

using the fru #s, google may return some domestic US sources, also.

hth.

I just recommend buying a voltage adapter assuming that there is a difference between the US and UAE. I recently went to thailand and they use 2 circular pins and the electricity is different, so I just bought a small adapter for a few bucks. problem solved.

Wow, why? Are you sure it was a voltage adapter, not just pin adapter? Voltage adapters are preety heavy bricks as they have autotransformer inside and they have certain maximum power rating, while pin adapter is just tiny plug with diffrent socket on the other side.

Lenovo chargers are "international", I assume x201 has same 65W adapter as I have, which works on 100-240V 50-60Hz. All what he needs is either pin adapter or... borowing a cable from any locally found radio, camcoder charger or other laptop with 8 shaped plug. BTW  £4.68 seems a lot for a simple power cord...
