So far Lenovo

i) have support engineers saying they'v never heard of the Helix

ii) yesterday said they would not honour the on site warranty they were selling for the Helix at all (tantamount to breach of contract if not fraud)

iii) are today saying that the keyboard is not an integral part of the Helix so not covered by the on site warranty, but is an integral part of the Helix so can't be replaced seperately

Yep, sounds like they know what they are doing...

I used to have that same viewpoint but Lenovo proved me wrong.

They showed me that they don't need to fix things like that to make most of their  customers happy.

Only a small percentage of us care.

I could go on and on how the ThinkPad brand is dead but that's never going to solve anything.

Why do you think I've stopped buying ThinkPads?

you are entitled to your own opinion and decision. but why should other poeple care? I have been happy with my thinkpads so far  but I don't expect everyone will be happy.

Well , ThinkPads are supposed to be premium products. The old ones were great examples of that and IBM's service was the best.

Now it's like ThinkPads are barely competing with Apple and get squashed by the high end Fujitsus , Dells , HPs, etc.

My point is that ThinkPads are supposed to be the best like they used to be but I guess I hold on too much to the past.

So I've decided...

My next tablet will be a Fujitsu....

And.. my next workstation will be an HP.

Why should a Fujitsu tablet from 2008  work better than  a brand new Lenovo tablet from 2012?

Why should a Lenovo tablet from 2008 work better than a brand new Lenovo tablet from 2012?

well, hope you enjoy your Fujitsu. And, if  you don't mind, I will continue to enjoy my thinkpads.

Mjkunz:  Great result for you... Hopefully this is all just launch confusion in a new product with a unique profile.

As of June 3 you can still order the next-day on-site warranty. I'm surprised hey would leave that on there given the possible backlash.

I have been told that they will honor the warranty on the tablet but the dock and ADP are depot only. I guess that is what they are sticking too and probably won't be changing anything.

Fair enough. If that's the case I'd still expect a footnote on those warranty options though. It's not really the kind of thing you want to surprise your corporate customers with the moment they urgently need service on the dock.

I agree.  It could be more detailed and customers should know exactly what they are getting. Many might settle for the depot only simply because of the cost savings and based on experience I am not confident that the on site techs will be able to repair the tablet without breaking it anyway.  It is sealed and would be difficult for someone without hours of experience.  Time will tell.  If there was a better option than the Helix I would definitely veer that direction.  I have not been impressed with Lenovo the last couple of years.

You probably already noticed but I overlooked it: in the screenshot I posted it literally states 'Tablet' on the NBD service plans. So I guess they're covered.

Edit: looks like they forgot it on one of the options, but the intent is clear.

Mjkunz,

Apologies for the problems you have had with your Helix and for not responding to this thread sooner.  I do appreciate your loyalty and repeat purchases of the Tablet 2 and Helix.

It seems like some progress since your first post in the thread, but if you are still not happy with the situation, I'd like to try to arrange some additional help.   Can you send me a private message with your contact info and the model type / serial number of your helix ? (I believe it is found on the bottom of the dock).  Please include any service case numbers you might have as well.

I'd like to look into the coverage

Joesixgig,

Thanks for the screenshots - we can check with the webteam and see what can be done to make this more clear.  It is important that we are clear so that customers make informed decisions on what they are purchasing.

Best regards,

Mark
