Poor 3G signal strenght?

2008-06-30, 18:39 PM

I got a X61 tablet that came with the WWAN card option, which supports 3G networks. However, the end user of the laptop is not able to get a good 3G signal anywhere, so it falls back to GSM/GPRS, which is (according to him) slow.

Anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting this issue?

Most likely, this issue is related to your paticular WWAN card option and provider of which there are several choices for the current X61 Tablets.   Since you are paying for what is more expensive 3G service (right?), then I would work with your service provider to debug the service.   For AT&T, you would have to pay extra for 3G instead of the slower standard.    Be sure your provider allows you to connect to their higher speed 3G network,   GSM/GPRS is much slower and probably around $10 cheaper per month.

Full disclosure: Not a Lenovo employee, just someone with a X61 running Win XP SP2
