Re: Helix Fans Always Running

The reason might be a simple mechanical (or statistical) issue. Some fans are very noisy while most of them are not.

EDIT: article from 2007 : Lenovo's cooling system

I would be very happy if Lenovo could say what  the max safe temperature for the CPU is - without the danger to damage any internal components or the screen.

Junction Temperature is the maximum temperature allowed at the processor die.

The maximum T-junction for the I7 3667U is 105 C.

Helix: 3697 CTO.

Thinkpad user since IBM. I do not work for Lenovo or any entity working for Lenovo.

Another idea.

Here is what I use to provide fresh air to my laptop from the bottom : Cooler Master U2

I didn't install the fans, but with the Helix they might be needed.

For small tablet PC there is also the D1 : Cooler Master D1

What would be the point of cooling the keyboard?

The battery don't even get hot when charging.

Remember, all heat-producing items is behind the screen, so any cooling beneath the computer is a waste :)

In tablet mode maybe ! Anyway, creating a fresh airflow around the machine won't hurt it.

And there is a battery underneath the keyboard...

Yes, but I have never noticed that the battery gets hot. So I don't feel the need :)

And in tablet mode, I need to keep it light..

All,

Re-reading the whole thread again...

As an observation it seemed that most of you that have Helix and have applied the new BIOS and dock firmware and now have fans running continuously until they stop and won't restart unless rebooted (?) are in Europe.

(After re-reading, that may still be the case by a narrow margin, but Jim8, gophynna, dubs, bloggs, and dreezy all are from US or Canada and are reporting the symptoms too.

Could every post their model type (the 7 digit type number?) if they haven't already.  Let's try to see what might be common.  I'm going over this again and noting 2698-6CG and 3698-4SU as common models, but there are a number of unknowns.

Also,

It might really help us move along on this to have an example system - someone from the US would be fastest.

Thanks!

Mark
