Re: Helix Fans Always Running

Mark,

I'm having this problem too now. Both the dock and tablet bios updated to 1.14. Since doing that, the tablet heats up very fast, very high, and the fans are on all the time. Prior to installing these bios updates, fan and cooling performance (with TPFC) were acceptable.

All,

As we try to re-create these conditions it might be helpful to have a bit more data...

1) What kind of system temps are you experiencing while the fans are running?

2) What temp is the environment where you are using this?   I notice that most people discussing the issues are in European countries or Asian ( I think Jim8 was the US exception so far).  If we are testing in a nice air conditioned lab, we may not be doing what you are.

Along with that, if you could confirm your full model type, we could see if there are any commonality there.

3) Please confirm that you installed both the Keyboard / base firmware and the new system BIOS.  I think most of you have.

Ultimately, we may need to get an example system from one of you.  Someone in the US may be best, but we could  work with those in Europe as well.  If you could work with us on that, please send a private message to Nine or myself.

Mark

Re: Helix Fans Always Running

I just got a 36984SU and previously tested a European 3698 (i5/4Gb/180Gb). The 36984SU/ shows a few important problems:

-Fan always running. No fix with the Bios and firmware update. Keeps saying on startup "Keyboard Dock fan error". The nois is unbearable and I think this situation affects battery life (around 5h docked). This obviously did not happen with the previous unit. Current Bios: GFET35WW (1.14), 05/06/2013

-The docked tablet oscillates abnormally. Did not happen with the previous unit.

-NFC cannot be activated, but I was informed that it does have it.

I see that there is a considerable group of people with the same problem . I need a solution or find a way to replace the equipment (I am abroad for a while and need to do it from Europe). Please PM if needed.

Same problem here - Since I did the BIOS update from June I always have loud fans if the tablet is docked. As soon as i undock it the fans are quiet . If i dock it again I have quite a good chance that it stays quiet... but that does not work all of the time.

That's not acceptable for an equipment that expensive.

I will be happy to participate. I am in Spain and have the us 36984su.same problems with fan, keyboard dock fan error upon startup and also oscillations in the tablet when dock (probably unrelated). The noise makes it impossible to work. Need a solution urgently. Please pm If I can help in any way.

same issue in Canada.

-3698-4SU
-Updated to latest BIOS and fans going nuts non stop.
-CPU temp from 49-60 range but fans seem to run consistently.
-even if CPU load is almost at nothing.. fan still seems to run

-If plugged into ext monitor, also get keyboard fan error on startup
-TPFanControl is the way i'm getting around this

dubs,

Can you explain how do you install, configure TPFC? Which version? It does not work for me (ver 0.62 and 0.63), I just install and run.

Tx

installed 0.62 and run at startup in smart mode. Didn't really configure anything either. Fans usually run when CPU is at or above 62 celcius
