When booting, pressing F12 brings up a menu of devices. Then select your CD/DVD drive.

After this, follow the restoration instruction. You'll be all set.

Sipp:

I've experienced system lock up with my x60 tablet.  Run vista business and my local guru says that I need a proprietary usb cd from Lenovo in order to run the restore disk or to do a reinstall.

Is this correct?  or will any usb cd player work?

Thanks in advance---I don't want to put out $200 for a lenovo cd burner if I don't have to.

You do not have to use a drive from Lenovo, I always use a 5.25" Freecom DVD-RW for restoring X-Series ThinkPads.

IF YOU WANT TO RESTORE VISTA... You must either use the restore partition by booting using the blue button, or use a set of restore disks (bootable) specifically obtained from Lenovo (additional cost), or use the restore disks you created when you made your backup set...  You did make a backup set of disks, right?  If you use the system restore disks that came with your t61 tablet, you will be restoring XP Professional 2005 Tablet Edition...  The later option will cancel the possibility of restoring Vista from your restore partition as this reformats your HDD, and installs a new restore partition for use with XP...

Hope this helps...

Re: Reinstall Windows Vista from Restore Disk (X61 tablet)

2008-07-22, 15:45 PM

Just wanted to leave an update on my progress.   I've not had time to devote to this project until last night.

I have a x60tablet and lost my Vista Business O/S.  I think this is related to a mishap that occurred while my MS One Source product was upgrading.

anyhow, I used the blue Thinkvantage button----brought up Recovery and Restore -----I restored to factory pre-installed (o/s that is, it didn't restore Office 2007 (but I have that disk).  I tried to do a recovery but found that the program would not id my Sony USB cd/dvd burner.  The restore took a long time and the "Thinkvantage-Lenovo  --Hit Thinkvantage button to interrupt log on options" screen stayed up x 5 hours.  The system did a reboot and "hung" at that screen shot.  After 5 hours I felt as though I should do a manual reboot and it did and reformatted my HD and re-installed the factory programs (sans the additional MS Office I got preinstalled).

No, I, like many others was STUPID and did not make a backupdisk (though I don't think I could have recovered without a Lenovo USB cd player).  Lesson Learned.

I do think the process of putting the factory system on the hdd (for idiots like me) was a good idea.

Anyway, thanks! and sorry it took me so long to respond with my results.

Dave
