Retrofit WWLAN Card on a X61t

2008-03-24, 7:53 AM
Rather than have to carry around a vodafone card I would like to retrofit the WWLAN card . Is that possible to do for a X61T 7762A16 Type machine without having to send it in to service. Alternatively If I already have a simcard with the Vodafone network can I use it with the sim socket provided .. without any additional hardware

The integrated WWAN feature is not supported as an aftermarket solution.  It's more involved than just installing a card in a slot.  There is also the a missing antenna and indicator light and would involve almost complete disassembly of the machine.  All the parts are available and it's not an impossible project but I wouldn't call it cheap or easy.

The indicator LED would not be such a problem, but retrofitting the Antenna seems to be more involved. I'm also interested in installing a WWAN Card into my X61t (7762-94G). I chanced a look under the palm rest bezel: klick me for a picture The grey cable in the strange plastic bag...is this perchance the prewired UMTS/WWAN Antenna? Because if retrofitting UMTS means only installing the WWAN MiniPCI-Card, it would be reasonably easy for me :)

So does that mean that X61 tablets that are "WWAN Ready" according to the customization options, don't have this built in "card"?
